My youngest son brought Vlad home at 8 wks. He blended right in with the rest of the family. My husband & I had a little 'mutt' named Beethoven, a petite rottie named Christine, and a red dobie named Argo (who had been abused, we got him at about 4 yrs of age.) The dogs were just plain old part of the family. They're all gone now due to age & illness except Vlad.
