My sister and her husband visited us this evening. They're from MI and were in town for a seminar. When they got here, she immediately noticed the guinea pigs. It's been a few years since she's visited, so she ran right over to take a look at who was in each of the cages.

She asked to pick up Pikachu and held her for awhile. I offered her Rigatoni and he really wiggled around so she didn't seem as comfortable with him. She wanted to also hold Puzzle, but I didn't think it would be a good idea since she nips when you least expect it. Goody was hiding and Curly? ..... she was sitting, facing the corner.

I told her Curly's story, the loss of Truffles and how Curly also lost Oreo. My sister had that look on her face. (She LOVES animals. They have dogs, a cat and a cockatoo.) So, of course she wanted to hold Curly and you could just see how content Curly was all snuggled up, being pet.

My sister held Curly for a long time and I suggested she put her back so she wouldn't poop on her. I took her, put her back in the cage and we all sat down in the living room to visit. Within minutes, she was holding Curly again and my brother in law was telling her she was not bringing home a guinea pig.

Before we knew it, the evening flew by and they said they were going to hit the road. I took Curly from my sister and we all stared at my sister. Curly left a BIG wet spot on her shirt. ha ha That little stinker didn't even squirm around to let her know she had to go.

Anyway, I offered her a clean shirt but she said she'd change it when she got back to her hotel......I wonder if she's going to get a guinea pig....

no. She's not one to spend any time on the internet since she's really busy with her career.

Her pets are well cared for. They bought the cockatoo because it had a crooked beak and the owner was thinking of euthanizing it since it had a tough time eating. Their vet trims the beak and does some sort of adjustment to help it eat. She does look out for all of their pets.

I loved reading this! I bet your sister didn't mind a bit about the wet spot. I'm glad Curly had a nice time & got to have lots of extra cuddles. I'm sure that was good for her.

You're right....she didn't care. I can always tell a real animal lover. They're never bothered by animal hair, getting licked or wet on.... :-)

It sounds like the question is "when" not "if". I think Curly knew that and was just testing her temperament to see if see would work out

It would be nice if she gave a home to a guinea pig in need. My other sister had a guinea pig for years. I was sad to see she didn't get another one when it died. She adopted a cat and didn't want to bring in a new pet into the household with the cat roaming free.

G pigs can certainly get in to some of our hearts. When I got my first I never dreampt I would end up with 5. Now I have to keep my eyes closed when I see one that needs a home! It will be interesting to see if your sister gets one. Curly certainly seems to have enjoyed her visit.

Curly was in Gpig heaven! She can be feisty at times, but she was putty in my sister's hands last night....

Animals have STRANGE ways of worming themselves into our hearts, don't they?

The other interesting thing that happened is that my sister brought a present for me from my niece. It was a tiny pewter statue of St. Jude, patron saint of desperate situations and hopeless cases and a very sweet message, wishing me the best in finding a new job. She's also looking for a job so she could relate, like I know you can, too. The little note with the statue said that it was a reminder that God is greater than any problem. It made me smile and gave me a lift.

Good story, glad Curly had a good evening. That would be nice if your sister got a guinea pig after seeing how nice yours are. Keep us informed. :)

We'll see.....I just told her she'd need to really watch the other animals around it since they're predators. Her husband is retired so he spends a lot of time taking care of the animals.

With each added animal comes more work and we know this when we do it. Animal lovers find a way to make it work. If she enjoyed your babies and is lucky enough to get one who is as well behaved as yours I'm sure it will be fine. I never imagined owning a rabbit with having six cats. All of the cats like Pookie and we supervise while they play together. When no one is home, we keep Pookie in a seperate room with the door shut. :)

I used to have a cockatiel and kept her cage next to the guinea pigs. They enjoyed each other's company.

Curly was in her glory while my sister was holding her. She usually lets us know when she wants to go back in her cage. This time she didn't; probably because she was very comfortable.

My sister laughed. She's always had a lot of pets so I'm sure it was no big deal. She also mentioned that my dad commented how all of us kids have a lot of pets. He said he didn't know where that came from.....yeah, we only had just about every species of pets when we were kids....

Aw, I doubt that little wet spot bothered your sister at all. Especially, knowing she loves animals and hearing about poor Curly's losses. You will have to keep us posted as to whether she gets a guinea pig or not. That would be so awesome! Hugs to all the babies!

She wouldn't get one from my rescue since she lives out of state, but I could see her going to a shelter looking for one. She was checking out the cages, too, so I knew she was interested. I did tell her she'd have to be careful with the other animals around a guinea pig. Her cockatoo chases the other animals around so who knows what it would do with a guinea pig.

Alice, you know what's funny? My sister was saying that Chico (the cockatoo) is getting very bossy and they mentioned that to their vet. The vet said Chico is a teenager now so they need to expect him to start getting defiant. He doesn't like eyeglasses and if you wear them, he'll go after you and take them off. It reminded me of Flip the iguana, too. Sheri mentioned that he is becoming a handful, too. All of my male guinea pigs have gone through that, too. I think Rigatoni is getting restless, too. Those boys......
