This is the face of Bobbi & the Strays--this is who you are helping!

This is Bandit, an Akita that has called Bobbi & the Strays his home for many MANY years. He waits patiently for the day when someone will walk through the shelter doors and sees just what a fantastic dog he is. But in 4 months, the chances of anyone walking through those doors to give him a forever home may be dashed. That is because the lease on their current shelter is running out in December, and unless they raise enough funds for a new shelter, Bandit and many others will find themselves homeless once again. Please help by donating (even a dollar is great!) and spreading the word.
Below is the description of Bandit as found on PetFinder. Look at that face--who has the heart NOT to help him?
"Hello everyone - my name is Bandit. I have been at the shelter for many years. I am a purebred Akita and weigh about 115 lbs. I guess that scares some people. I am sure that most people misunderstand me, but I wish they would take the time to understand my bad circumstances. I was found just wandering around on the streets along the highway. I haven’t had a home in a really long time. I dug a hole on the side of the road for protection when I was found and brought to the shelter. I am really lonely here. I wish I could have a warm cozy home to call my own. I know basic commands and I love to get attention and praise. Sometimes the volunteers tell me how gorgeous I am and I really like that. They call me a big teddy bear too! I am pretty calm and enjoy leisurely walks, I wish I could do that more often. I would really like to have a fenced in back yard to relax and watch the birds fly by. Since I have been in the shelter for so long, I get scared of strangers sometimes. I would like to get to know you first before we go home together. My life has been a little depressing so I need to take it slow. I seem to like most pets especially females, but sometimes children scare me. If you have Akita experience that would be great for the both of us! And ask about our “foster with intent to adopt program".

Some of you sent the nicest notes of support. Bobbi was in tears as she read them. The outpouring of love and support has been really wonderful.
I know I've said this before, but it really is giving us hope that we will be able to meet our deadline.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I've also seen Bandit, free from his cage, being taken for an outing in a local park on Jamaica Bay. He looked happy and proud as he sat there, completely calm as he watched families cross his path, sometimes walking their dogs too.
Bandit has so much potential. He just needs to have someone get to know him, to build a bond of trust and love, and then maybe he will find a loving home with a carpet to roll around on, a bed he can stretch out on and a sky he can look at through a window as he relaxes.
