They army's medical drill
9 comments
I just sent zootoo an article about our army and they medical drill they plan on carrying out today. PETA has protested but apparently to no avail. The army is planning on a shooting drill using pigs to teach emergency lifesaving skills needed on the battlefield when there are no medics, doctors or facilities nearby. I have read they can use similators but I'm sure pigs are cheaper. They have never worried about wasting our money before so why now? I find this outrageous.
IMHO our army would be better served if they had gone over with proper equipment and weapons to name a couple. Some spokesperson said the Army was committed to providing the soldiers with the best training possible. Really? It was not an issue at the beginning so why now? I guess this does not extend to their armor which is sorely lacking from what I have read.
I just find this barbaric and I think I might associate the pig with my dog. I have heard that pigs are smart. They Army says they will be anesthetized. Come on....why is the best option NOW. Give me a break. Give the pigs a break.

My comment will doubtless get me ostracized, but after many years of study, the best way to prevent war injuries is to ... put the leaders of the countries that don't agree about whatever, in a room with their choice of weapons (including paper and pencil, microphone, leaky water faucet, etc.) and tell them not to come out until they've fixed whatever it is about which they do not agree.
War is economic. One country's leaders want something the other country has (oil? gold? water?) and go to war in order to acquire that item.
Admiring the courage of soldiers is not synonymous with liking war.
I'd like to see no pigs killed/maimed, and no soldiers, either.
Make war illegal and then fine the daylights out of any country that dares make war.
War does not make peace. It destroys people, cities, farms, culture, and leaves in its wake maimed bodies and minds and untold collateral damage.
There are other ways to fight for freedom than fighter planes and tanks. There's the power of conversation, which should honor the cultures of others without seeking to conquer those cultures. I'm not talking about crimes toward women and children that happen in all countries. I'm simply saying that "democracy" is not the only answer and that our own country is being overwhelmed from within and diluted to a point where our own knowledge of who we are and what we stand for has been pretty thoroughly trounced. This is not a forum for such things, so please accept my apologies for having gotten a bit off-track, but no one should be maimed just for 'practice.' No one wants animals harmed during testing for things like cosmetics and chemicals. The article said that the animals do not survive "the exercise." This sickens me. Who's to know how humane such injuries are when the test subject is anesthetized? The test subject certainly cannot tell.
