Thank You!

I am writing this the morning after. I told someone that I felt like I had just been through 3 months of labor, have delivered the baby but don't know yet whether its a boy or a girl. But what I do know is that no matter what shelter is selected to win the grand prize, we've won. The Humane Society of Parkersburg won today! A bunch of ordinary people with normal lives (or we used to have them) from a little town in West Virginia came together to finish in the Top 20 of a contest with more than 900 hundred shelters! We worked our butts off putting our normal lives on hold often at times. I'm sure we all let things go and neglected things we shouldn't have and wouldn't have for anything else. Families, friends, tasks, jobs, housework and probably even our own pets. And for what? For the sake of animals we don't even know yet. For animals that haven't even come in our doors. For some that are already there and waiting for us to save them. For our community who has needs like all others in this country. Its just been so amazing and I cannot thank each and every one of you for joining in the task...as crazy, tiring, frustrating, inspiring, educational, and of course last but not least, zoo-tastic as it has been. To my new friends and my old friends who stuck with us from start to finish...Jon, Melissa, Kim, Debbie, Sandy, Peggy, Lynn, Sue, and so many more....as soon as I can my house clean we're having a After Zoo Party and begin our 12 Step Stepdown program. I am so proud of us. I don't know what happens next (I'm looking forward to the Judges coming to visit) but if we can do this, it gives me such hope for what we can do for our shelter no matter who wins the makeover. I believe we've already won the grand prize. We have hope! Thank you all so much.

I started on this incredible journey in December just hoping to help our Humane
Society here in Parkersburg win a million dollar makeover for the animals and
something happened along the way. I met some great new friends and reconnected
with some dear old friends . When I started in December we had 93 members and
were ranked #168. When we finished we had 1979 members and were ranked #18.
We've had our highs and lows along the way, but never forgetting the reason
we all came together and that was to make the shelter a better place for our animals , so we picked ourselves up and fought on together. It's quite a reason to
celebrate because a little old town in West Virginia finished in the Top 20 , out of
all the shelters in the country.. Now those of us that spent 6 hours a day on the
computer and let everything in our lives go for months are excited and sad that it
is over, but now that we have formed this great bond among one another we can't
stop because along this journey I have found that this is just the first step and I
can't just walk away. I now have new and old friends that will work along side of me
to help our shelter in any way we can. We can really celebrate if we win the million
dollar makeover. So thank you to all my friends as we celebrate a job well done.
We couldn't have done it without one another.
