Spidey and the kitty cat "fireworks"

The sounds and activities of holidays can give me a paws for concern but this 4th of July was different. ...or so I thought.
The temps stayed in that just right to cat nap range. Too hot and the fight to sit in front of the air conditioner goes extra rounds. Too cold and its "move over that spot on the bed is MINE!". But the day was nice. The sun brought out people to look at, birds to cackle at and (joy of joys) BUGS!!! Spiders and flies and bees Oh, my! All outside on the other side of the screen where they belonged. All of them except the tiny spider that waited until I was ready for bed to pay a visit.
I spotted the spider . ...or rather I spotted the cats spotting the spider just as I was settling down for the night. Fluzzy froze and was staring at the ceiling. I looked up and just saw cob webs and paint. She turned her head from side to side and slowly crept over the bed. I pulled the sheet over me and looked up again. Nothing but dry wall. She climbed up over the TV and shelving unit until she was at the top of the curtains. That is when I spotted it. A tiny jumping spider eight legging it for the corner. Fluzzy is a very smart cat. She knows that she isn't allowed to climb the curtains. She also knows that if she uses her cat mind control she can get the spider to come to her. She knows all of that but Pooka doesn't. One second I was staring up at the spider trying to decide if I wanted to get the broom or just let the cat take care of it and the next minute I was shoved aside by a fire-cat who was working her way up the wall. Pooka had exploded out of nowhere and was burning her way toward the tiny spider. She almost made it to the top. The wall hanging that I had put up to insulate the exterior wall and served as a training tool to safely teach kittens not to climb was not up to something Pooka's size. It began to buckle. Pooka got her nails caught and began to sway. The tiny spider stopped, thumbed its little nose with at least four of its legs and disappeared behind the drape. Pooka outraged at the loss yanked he feet free, tumbled onto the bed and blazed into the kitchen. She shot around for a few minutes and returned a winded and spiderless cat. I fed her, consolded her and settled down to a restful sleep. A sleep that lasted until 3:30 in the morning.
The spider must have come back because Pooka was blazing through the apartment again. Snoogle woke me up when she bolted from her spot on the bed hitting the most delicate parts on the way out. Rumble started hitting the screen door to her room when Pooka because using it as a spring board in her romp and she wanted to join in the fun. Fluzzy snuck up looking for a kiss and a snack. Having been throughly trained in the fine art of sleep feeding I was just starting to give in when Pooka landed on her. I don't know if it was an attack or if she was just headed back to the wall but Fluzzy screamed like her world was lit up. She shot up into the air. A massive popping noise burst out of her backside followed by the sparking aroma of kitty poo. Pooka had scared the ..... out of her. Half asleep and not all that smart when I'm awake I began to feel around in the dark for the poo. I could not find any. Maybe the spider took it. ...or maybe they will both be back.
