So proud of my son!

My son Connor is in the 5th grade and had to do a end of the year project on anything he wanted-but he had to have a prop to go along with his report. He chose to do his on animal adoptions since we just adopted Nacho and we got permission to bring Nacho to school as his prop. He didn't tell any of his friends what he was doing his report on, only his teacher knew. I got up yesterday morning and got Connor to school then got Nacho ready to go to school. He got a bath and a chew to clean his teeth. He loves riding in the car and when we pulled up to the school he was so excited, like he knew he was about to be a star! I was so proud of Connor, he has inherited my love of animals and he was so proud of Nacho. He knew sit when we got him, but in the few weeks we've had him has learned shake, lay down and the word treat and his fav "doggy dinner time". We made flyers for his friends to take home with the ladies name and number whom we adopted Nacho from as well as the shelter information and types of donations they need for the animals. With all the commotion I forgot to get a fresh set of batteries and was only able to get one picture-but at least I got one. Nacho loves kids, and when we walked into the room he thought he was in Heaven and all those kids were his toys. He told his class a lot of people are under the impression they have to adopt a puppy but there are so many older dogs that are sweet, fun and loveable, just like Nacho-that need homes too! I was so proud of him and thankful that he is as kindhearted as he is. He got a round of applause when he was done and I about started bawling. But I held it together so I wouldn't embarrass him HA! Nacho has been a real blessing to our family, it's a shame that other people don't see the joy an animal can bring and how they love you back no matter what!

That is a beautiful story and teaching kids to be kind to animals and supporting shelters is very important. I think you are going to have plenty of happy times to come with Nacho and Connor. A child learns compassion from their parents and you have him pointed in the right direction. Keep up the good work.

i think that our love and respect for animals is one of the best things we can teach our children!! good job connor!!

the applause must go to you my friend, for it is you that have shown Connor how to love and care for animals by example. he has 'your heart' because you freely give yours.
peace,
amy

Thank you so much Amy, that was a very sweet thing to say! I went to the school yesterday for 5th grade graduation and all of classmates asked about Nacho, one little girl said she is trying to talk her mom into taking her and getting a dog. Thanks again, that is such a nice way to start my day!

Nacho was a star, and he ate it up! His little tail never stopped wagging and I had to pull him out to leave!

I think he's a great kid! He has been with me on many times when we have picked up dogs out of the road, or found them and called their owners. If it was up to him he would bring them ALL home!

Thank you so much for sharing that wonderful story about your wonderful son. His wonderful Mom raised him !!!! I know how proud you must be, I have a grandson,Ben, who is so similar. It's so important to teach them the love of animals, isn't it? I have stated it before this, I feel badly for the folks who never get the opportunity to know what this feels like. Your son will grow into a fine man. Smile, be pleased!

I agree, teaching kids how to love and respect animals is so important. Both of my kids just adore Nacho-and they both know how important animal adoption. I didn't mention in the story but Connor told his class to keep the pet population under control you need to stress to your parents how important it is to have them fixed-that it isn't fair to the animals. I was so proud of him and we got his grade yesterday and his teacher-who is a total dog lover herself-gave him a 150 on his paper :o)
