Pet Wars

I think the Pet Wars should be done on a voluntary basis. If you want your pet in a "beauty pageant" so to speak then enter that pet.
I do not want any of my pets in it and have only posted 2 of my pets. That is part of the reason.
It is very biased - for example, a kitten vs an adult cat. Gee, wonder which will be seen as cutest. Besides, it is based on looks and that is the main reason I want none of my pets in it. I don't judge by looks Besides I just think they are all magnificent. Also, I just learned that shelters judge by looks and that's just wrong. The world just sucks that so many innocent animals have to die EVERY day because of some stupid adult.
Excuse me as I am a bit melancholy today. I just know that my Shadow was at death's door and pushing it open and I am so grateful for every day I have him now. He learned at a very young age that I did the important things and he decided he was going to be number 1.
He IS number one.....all my babies are. I learned a lot from the rescue issue and the whole pet food debacle. A LOT.....I don't need a superficial contest. I should be able to opt out of this contest. All I wanted was to post with other animal lovers, stay current on animal events and ease some of the pain.
Mine are ALL aces and I don't need any votes to know that. All I have to do is look into their beautiful faces and watch them as they go about their day just being cats.

It is all in good fun. I understand where you are coming from. My dogs haven't really done all that great according to the majority. But when all my clients come over and see them. They are amazed at how beautiful and kept they are. My friends collies are also submitted and he could not believe the results. I explained to him it is no big deal. When I managed PETCO. He would take them in on the weekend (all 4) They were the center of attention in the grooming salon. The entire store would gather around the salon. It was unbelievable. Don't take it personal. We all have beautiful and unique pets. All of gods creatures are beautiful in their own way.

So true. They can't all win!!

I sent an email to info@zootoo.com requesting that they stop the Pet Wars and only do it on a voluntary basis. Others can do the same!

I agree! I open up my page and see wins-losses under my babies' pictures and I just cringe. Sure, it is probably fun for some, but I am not interested in participating either. They are all beautiful to me!

I'm terribly sorry to hear about your loss. Loosing a pet is like loosing a family member to some people. It takes a long time to recover.

I agree. I don't want to participate in pet wars. I haven't posted any real pictures of my pets and that's one of the reasons. If artwork looses to a real pet, that's just fine with me but I still don't like to see that my pet is a loser. I deleted my pets and then re-added them so I don't have to see who many times they're a loser. Now you can't see what they look similar too without going to my zoo pictures. If they get marked as a loser again, I'll just do the same thing.

I have a rescue cat with a bent ear. The rescuer didn't think that she would get adopted because she wasn't perfect or as pretty as some of the other rescues, so she waived the adoption fee. I think the main reason she waived the fee was because my rescue cat has specific medical needs regarding her damaged ear. My rescue cat has the best personality description I've ever read and that's why I picked her and decided to give her a try. She does have the sweetest, cutest, funniest personality and I am so lucky to have her.

I am also very sorry to hear about your poor kitty and I also agree that pet wars should be voluntary. I do though, try not to take my pets' lack of votes personally and in fact I expected it! My cats are rather unusual and most people don't appreciate their beauty. I even had one person comment upon walking into my home, "Oh my God! They're weird looking!". Good thing my cats don't speak English or they might have been insulted. Unfortunately, pictures do not always let us see the true personality inside. A crinkled ear, missing eye, who cares! It's the love they give and the happiness they bring that's important! I had a cat with two crinkled ears and I thought he was adorable! I am thinking though, that if you wanted to, you might be able to add pictures without being in pet wars by clicking on add a photo. Just don't put a picture in the details box where it says "change picture"

your rescue kitty was lucky to find you!

I agree completely. People shouldn't have to see, like I did, that their beloved pet has lost pet wars 80 times and won 26 times. That just sucks, especially when my beloved dog was put to sleep yesterday. If people choose to participate, that's fine, but it shouldn't be done without specific consent. All our pets are wonderful!

I am SO sorry for your loss. I know how it feels as I lost my Duncan last November. I didn't have a photo of him on this site, but I felt just awful when I removed his name. I haven't participated in any of the pet wars, and I won't in the future. I've mentioned this before, they are ALL beautiful winners.

I am so sorry for your loss. Believe me when I say I know how devastating it is. I bought a plaque off click for animals that says Heaven is where you meet all the cats you ever loved. They have one for dogs also. This helps me when I get overwhelmed by my grief.

I am so sorry for your loss! It sucks to see the "score" when the baby is alive...I couldn't imagine! My condolences to you and your family Jessica.

I forgot to mention that my sweet, precious Nicky has lost 81 times and she is no longer with us because someone stole her right out of our yard. That's how I can truely understand your feelings on this too. I don't want to see that!
Too bad you can't say yes or no to participating...and also too bad that I can't wipe out the "scores" under my babies' pictures so I don't have to see it!

Melody.....that is just awful. Somone stole my brother's dog out of his front yard. He ran in just to grab his treat and ran out to see the jerk getting in his car. Unfortunately there is a rendering plant nearby that pays 20.00 for dogs/cats and I see many lost dog/cat flyers posted. I don't think that should be allowed as we all know what kind of people bring the animals to this plant. No loving pet owner would do this. My brother had his dog for almost 20 years and he acted like a puppy.

I don't vote just for the puppies or kittens. I'll get into trouble for this, I'm sure, but if there's a choice between a naked dog and a sweater-clad dog, I choose the nudie every time. If there's a choice between a photo of a cat, and a photo of a cat and children and/or adults, I choose the solo cat. I figure people can take one photo sans family members and instead focus the lens on their pet. When Zootoo introduces the "Sexy Girlfriend/Tough Boyfriend War" or the "Adorable Kid War," then people can submit those photos. Many, many times I vote for the pooch with white hairs on his chin because he's old and deserves a boost! Sometimes I vote for the poor pet whose photo is fuzzy, dark, or the photo was taken from a mile away and the pet looks like a tiny dot. I feel sorry for those pets and have to vote for them because who else will?

Finally, I never vote for the photos of cartoon characters or obviously copyrighted photos. And who in the world takes a photo of their child, describes him as a dog breed, and posts his photo up as a pet?

Can someone explain to me how this Pet Wars thing even works?

Go to "Pets and People" on the orange menu bar. Then select "Pet Wars." You'll figure it out from there. Everyone's pet is automatically added. Morgan is rated 333, but poor Daphne's rated 49,114 and Rachel is at a dismal 75,486. I'm not too worried though. Morgan hasn't let her standing go to her head, and Daphe and Rachel just don't give a tinker's hoot. ;-)

I definitely agree with most of your post and the replies ~ Perhaps, like you said, this contest should be voluntary. I'm no pageant mom by any means, but like the rest of us, I am very proud of my dogs and its fun to highlight via descriptions and posts, why I think they are cute and should win the "Pet Wars" However, what seems completely misaligned is that the contest appears to be based solely on a point & click picture of your pet. There really needs (in my opinion) be additional criteria thoughtfully considered. Basing a contest based on looks alone sure doesn't seem to send the right message for potential new adopters who might pick out a new loved one at the shelter based on the animal's appearance, versus a multitude of other factors that are more important (i.e., disposition, length of time in the shelter, etc). Anyway, someone in the replies mentioned that no one likes to see their pet lose a "war" based on looks. I have to admit, that when I got home from work today and saw that 2 of my 4 have already lost, it slightly bummed me out. Isn't there way to have a fun contest like this based on other factors other then external appearance? just a thought.

Well I agree with a lot of this, everyone has their own opinion and to each of us, our own pets are the cutest things in the world because we know their personalities and love them. Of course people are going to pick kittens over cats for the most part, and I myself don't care for picking because I think they are all beautiful, magnificent creatures who deserve to be #1. Again, in our eyes, our own furry family members are on that pedestal, and they should be. Take my silly kitty Miki for instance, I will be the first to admit that she isn't the most beautiful or cutest cat in pictures compared to others, but in person, and in our hearts at home, she is just soooooo very cute because of her darling, funny, sweet personality, and because we love her. So it's definately not a fair judgment, just for fun only! Although to me it's not really fun to put any "last", ya know? :)

I don't think we need pet wars (don't like the name even) and NO ONE wants to see their child being voted down ... Sorry mom you rescued this dog cat etc from death or adopted someone special .. you cant judge how special a pet is by cute!!!
Don't need it, don't want us turning into "pageant parents" do you??

When I first joined Zootoo and saw Pet Wars I thought it was cute and interesting to see who people were voting for UNTIL I saw some were voting against our beautiful Bridgette! How could people be so blind? LOL!! Then, even though I knew Bridgette would always be #1 in my eyes, I figured all the animals are beautiful to their owners. So, I guess, just have fun with it. It's an opportunity to see all the wonderful animals of owners who love them.

You are so correct. I just took it all so personal I guess. Yes, they are the best to me. I have a couple that no one wanted to adopt that are just the most wonderful companions. Junior (we thought she was a boy and KNEW who her daddy was!) is the most talkative of any cat I have ever been around. I was not allowed to choose but I could not have chosen better if I had been allowed.
If i run across Bridgette's pic she has my vote already!
Thank you for the kind words!!

Then it is not her loss - it is other people's. I know this from experience. I have even voted a few times for the wrong one when I got distracted.
You know what a winner she is as I do with mine and that is what I'll keep in my heart!!

I just want to say that for me personally,it's not a kitten over an adult,a puppy over an adult, for I have picked many ,that some people may have thought the "Underdog" Beauty is really in the eye of the beholder so I don't think that only the babies are winning.
I think that we probably all feel like you do and think our pets are #1,or all aces.
I also think that this Pet Wars is all done for fun,and that you're taking it way to seriously.I think every animal shown is a beautiful animal, regardless if someone picks them or not. Right now,I have a fish in first place,I also have a cat that I think is the greatest, but his votes all go against what I think, and people vote against him.I don't care if my fish is in first place, nor my cat in last, because like you,I don't need someone to vote for me to all ready know that I think,... that they are the best. I just know that it's all done in fun.
I've also noticed that there are a lot of people who have been around forever, but don't show personal pics of their pets. Maybe they feel like you,and just decided that they didn't even need to show their pets.
Truthfully,I think that Pet Wars are probably more attractive to the "Newbies".I have enjoyed them because I 'm still pretty new,and I just really enjoy looking at all the animals.
It's easy enough to just stay out of that area period, and just focus in the areas that you enjoy.

Personally, I enjoy the pet wars. Sometimes its very competitive and sometimes its not, but I'll tell you, no, the kitten or puppy very rarely win with me. Its all when you look into their eyes. I saw one of my cats on it once (guess who won that competition). I just think it should end and then restart..like winner of the month or something.

I'm with you on that one, the age doesn't matter but the eyes do. believe in the saying "the eyes are the window to the soul". Many times I have run against a
baby vs. and elder and I go directly to the eyes before placing my vote. I also don't like the get-ups people have on the animals. Several times I couldn't see the animal thru all the ruffles and such. But I still think it's all in fun so everyone can see the others babies.

You are absolutely correct! My biggest problem is that too many times I like them both.
I think I voted for your fish!!

hahaha!!!! See,it really is all for fun.Do you know that I'm in the top 3 Voter's,yet I have never even seen any of my cats, nor my dog,nor my daughters and my son's animals!!!!
So you see,I have to continue on with Pet Wars, and believe me when I say that by the time that I see all our animals,I'm so sure that I will have voted for your animals at least 10 times!!!!! Have fun with it PJW.

I completely agree with you. its unfair when my eight year old dog cant win against an 8 week old puppy. people see a puppy or a kitten and its over. forget the older pet.
