My proud hunters.

I took Festus and Chico outside for some fresh air. Festus of course made his rounds and Chico, my skittish baby, danced around over to the bushes, runs back to me...back to the bushes, runs back to me. I have to give him constant reassurance. Today was interesting though...Chico climbed his first tree!...Okay, he only got his bulk about 3 feet off the ground but it was a valiant attempt! Then he noticed a tiny squirrel eating out of my bird feeder and run-waddled (his own peculier gate) over to the feeder. He did his kitty cackle and stretched as far up into the bush as he could, but to no avail, the squirrel disappeared. I gave Mr. Cheeks, much praise to stroke his kitty ego.

Festus has flopped on the sidewalk, when he looked very interested at a tree. I couldn't see anything, but he ran over there and around the tree, and off flew a large hawk! I told Festus not to mess with him or a talon might take his other eye, and then where would he be? I think even he was a little surprised by the size of the bird. Reminds me of when that large pelican was sitting on the roof of our garage. Festus just stared at it with the hugest eyes I've ever seen. That bird was 3 times his size and I think Festus was suitably impressed.

Don't tell them, but shots are due on Wed. and they will be going to the V. E. T. Chico should be a handful.

Please don't let your "babies" go out unsupervised with a hawk in the area. A hawk swooped down and carried off my friends poor little Chloe kitty and there was nothing anyone could do to save her.

I never let them out unsupervised. I am always with them. I live in the middle of a town and have noticed some small falcons hanging around my birdfeeder in the past, but only two big hawks. I don't think he was big enough to carry off a cat, but I was startled nonetheless. I will keep an eye out for him in the future. I didn't see him today. I know about large birds taking small animals, my sister's farm cat was taken by a very large owl.

I'm just hoping I can get Chico into a carrier quickly. He will be a handful and the high pitched screeching should wake everybody at the vets up!

Oh the brave grandbabies! How will you ever get both of them in carriers to get them to the vet? Better start early..........

Festus will be on his leash and held by dad and Peep will be in the carrier. They both won't fit and Peep will be in such a tizzy.
