My escape artist

I'm innocent
I had a fun time today. I was right in the middle of making zucchini bread when there was a knock at the door. Harry went into fits of loud barking as I'm trying to hear what my neighbor is telling me.

Chief is loose. Great. So I head out to see about catching him. Hawk and Russ are racing around the turn-out all excited by this turn of events. Of course that just got Chief running faster. And he's supposed to be on stall rest. Right.

I went in the turn out and caught Hawk and put his halter on. I figured if I could get him to stop running it would settle Chief down too. Russell had other ideas. He kept running as fast as his little legs would go. Chief went flying down through the wash and onto the neighbors property. Great, he's headed for the road. I finally got Russ coralled and tied the little stinker up. Meanwhile I'm hanging on to Hawk. I walked him to the far end of our property and called Chief. He saw me with Hawk, and turned toward us. Thank goodness!

At this point hubby hears all the commotion and comes outside. He called to Chief and the big stinker trotted right for him! We all started laughing. My neighbor handed Tom a halter, and he took Chief back to the barn.

This was way too much excitement for me today! Wait til the vet hears about this one!

Well, it is good to see that he is feeling good. The can be so mischievious and don't always want to do what is best for them, huh?

Chief, you bad, bad boy! I think you've given Mom enough excitement for quite a while.

Oh, you naughty boy! Running around like a mustang! Bad, bad, bad for your recovery. And isn't that just a like a horse to come right up to the person who isn't really trying to catch them? Like the cat who zooms in on the house guest who doesn't like cats and jumps in their lap!

LOL Good one Cathy! He went back in his stall and stood there looking all innocent...Ha! He must be feeling better...but we were worried about the sutures. Our vet is scheduled to come out tomorrow for a re-check anyway.

How did Chief escape? I had a day like this last month when my two boys escaped and I was home alone! The adrenline rush I got lasted for about 3 days. Now I'm so paranoid when I feed in the morning, it takes half an hour longer because I double, triple check the gate! It was the day before Spikes 3rd birthday! Glad your big guy is feelin' better. I'm sure that was more excitement than you needed for awhile!

When my hubby put him back in his stall, he thought he hooked the chain. Sometimes it looks like it's hooked, but the snap is between the chains, not actually hooked on them. I guess that's what happened. Chief always rattles the chains to the doors and gates. I guess to see if he can get out. This is the third time in two years that stinker got out! We're lucky, he never goes far. We are surrounded by horses, so he just usually goes 'visiting'!
I am SO paranoid about it...I double check the gates all the time too. How are your boys doing?

Oh my, lots of excitement. At least Chief came when called and was not lost in the wilderness unlike my experience with Frodo. He sure must be feeling good.
