Love Offering...

Cecil and Seville have always been indoor cats since the day I adopted them.I have always caught moths and such to try to keep their hunting instincts intact. They love to catch flying bugs I release in the house. If they are really lucky a grasshopper or a cricket will enter through a doorway. All I have to do is yell "BUG!" and both run from where ever they are (even if in a deep sleep) to see what kind of goody Mum has found as they know the hunt is on.
The only furbaby allowed out is Bonnie Rose and its to go potty or to play with either myself or my husband. As she sometimes will do on a weekend, not that we like it. She woke up at 6:30 a.m. and wanted out.I meandered down the steps hoping to not fall with my eyes still 3/4 shut.I located my outdoor shoes by feeling around with my feet as I realized my mind was still asleep on the pillow upstairs. Bonnie Rose was at the door sitting as usual with her bottom wiggling all over the floor waiting for her stumbling Mum to figure out where she was. Finally I gathered my key and out we go. Bonnie Rose bolts onto the grass not her usual location. Lay downs and grabs something. She stands up and comes to the door. I thought this odd as she made no potty stop at all. She really didn't have to go. Which I really could have used that morning cup of tea before going outside. Both Cecil and Seville were sitting inside the door waiting when we walked back inside. I did not notice Bonnie Rose still had something in her mouth. (Mind still upstairs on pillow) She brought it in and laid down in the den. Both Seville and Cecil followed her or I should say ran at full tilt behind her. When she stopped they ran into her. She ever so gently placed this huge grasshopper down. I watched both cats look at it almost puzzled as I don't think they knew what it was due the to size of it. Then their eyes lit up with FEAST! on their minds. Bonnie Rose stood up and went across the room and laid back down. Both Seville and Cecil went wild with excitment and joy. They chased, jumped and pawed at the grasshopped well until as we all know what cats will do. What a glorious morning for the cats. Bonnie Rose laid there a few feet away watching with the pride of a mother. I was truly amazed as Bonnie Rose has been here for 2 months as of the 17th and the cats and Bonnie Rose were just starting to accept one another. Today she showed she loves them by offering them their favourite food and toy all in one! Its almost like she told them prior to going out as they waited at the door for us to return. They have never done that.Bonnie Rose loves to play with and eat grasshoppers herself so for her to sacrifice one of her favourites to Seville and Cecil is truly indeed a huge gift of love. I feel that we are finally a bonded family now for sure.

What a wonderful story. Thank you for sharing. I can't believe that you bring insects inside for your cats to torture...that really disgusts me as insects have feelings, too. JUST KIDDING! I read the other comments and thought that I would mess with everyone a little.

The moths inside would freak me out a little. What happens if the kitties don't catch them before bedtime? Do you ever worry that you might just inhale one in your sleep? I am a "bug baby". I do fine with snakes, mice, etc. but one little bug on my ceiling and I can't go to sleep. :)

They always get them in a matter of minutes. Funny as I always have to catch two. One for each. I have never had them ever not catch them. I want them to have some natural instincts and being indoor only its the only way I know how to. They hear the word "bug" and even if in a deep sleep will jump and run. I freak with snakes, mice etc. However I have to deal with rattlers, cotton mouths ,copperheads and such at our farm. Guess that is why I freak. Every now and then a gator. A moth I don't mind. The cats enjoy it so much its worth doing it for them. It's also protein for them. LOL

awww don'tcha just love it :0)

How adorable. Love this story. You have some sweet cats who seem to love one another very much.

Sweet she brought them a gift to share. The night before last I was watching TV and Willow was meowing at my feet.Which she isn't much of a talker. So I looked down and she had a mouse. She was so proud of herself showing me and talking all about how she caught it.

How sweet!! Bonnie Rose found her way into the hearts of those two kitties. Sounds like they have developed a good bond between them!

It is so nice when the new one fits into the pack/family just right. Same with Aegir. He has learned that Hrothgar is an old boy and judges play on Hrothgar's terms. If Hrothgar is playful but on the floor, Aegir will lay down to and they have a "face fight" and front leg slamming. It is so funny to watch as they remind me of big walrus laying there. Aegir has even taking to fighting laying on his back to give Hrothgar the advantage. But if Hrothgar is up and ready, he lets Aegir know and Aegir runs like crazy and Hrothgar usually will chase a bit or stand in the door way and smack Aegir with his paw when he runs past.

It is amazing what animals will do to get along. I love that Bonnie Rose picked up the whole Grasshopper thing with the cats. That is one smart girl.

My Nacho is a bug chaser, Rex and Sugar love to chase frogs and lizards and its so fun to watch them! You are a better mom than I am however, I don't bring the bugs and frogs and lizards inside. And how very sweet of Bonnie Rose to bring them a treat, I bet she was very proud of herself.

That would have been something to see. Obviously Bonnie Rose fits in quite well with Seville and Cecil. I had to laugh reading about the moths you get for them. Last night we heard all this loud thumping and pawing at the walls. My husband was asleep so my daughter and I ran out to see what Linus, our cat, was up to. His eyes were fixed on a moth that had gotten in and he was ready to attack again. Not wanting to wake my husband, my daughter was swatting at one end of the hall and I was at the other end swatting back. None of us could get that darn moth. Luckily, after awhile, my daughter was able to get a cup on the moth and let it out...without waking anyone! We were laughing as the three of us were bouncing off the hall walls in a very small space.

How CUTE!!! She is a border collie, right? Border collies are very intelligent. My neighbor has one and I swear she knows everything you are saying to her. I just love her to death. By the way, thank you for answering my question today. It was very helpful.

I love this story. It's amazing how animals show love for each other. When I got may Arabian, I had a QTR Mare that was getting up in age and couldn't get around too good any more. She was in her late 20's. One day as I was throwing out hay to everyone, I couldn't believe my eyes when Billy, the Arabian, run down the hill, grab a flake of hay, ran back up the hill and dropped it in front of Star, the mare. Then he ran back to the hay pile, got another flake of hay for himself, ran back to Star with it and shared both flakes with her. I couln't believe my eyes. He knew that it was difficult for her to get around and he brought the hay to her. God bless the little guy.

Lynn, that's a real tear jerker. Boy they know more than we give them credit for, don't we? I'm glad that you got to see it.

Aww! That makes my heart melt! What a smart and caring horse! :)

What a wonderful story. I know nothing at all about horses so this story was a really wonderful surprise.

Oh my that brings tears to my eyes. Animals are so much smarter then most give them credit for. So many say they don't have feelings. Bull I say. That shows how much he cared for your other horse. Just as Bonnie Rose does the cats. I truly think animals have more intelligence then most humans I see a majority of the time. Why would a calf and a mother cow cry for one another if not? Animals love just as humans do I feel. Thank you for your comment. I enjoyed your story. Animals are so wonderful.

I am a firm believer in animal emotions and intelligence. I've seen it with my own animals and others. They were put on this earth for our companionship and for us to take care of, so it would only make sense that they respond with emotion.

Awww! I loved reading this story! Its so wonderful to see that kind of bonding. Bonnie Rose clearly knew the way into the hearts of those two kitties. What a doll she is! :)

Thank you, she is such a sweet heart. I am surprised at how tenderhearted she is. She is this way with everything. And people are afraid to get their pets from shelters or rescues? If they only could see her and Cecil and Seville. What they are missing is a shame. Thank you for your nice compliment.

The rescues are usually the sweetest, more loving ones because they're so grateful and happy to have been given a home! I adopted Sophie and she is a sweetie pie!

Deedee as always I enjoy hearing from you. Bonnie Rose is such a lover. I still don't understand why people say they would never rescue or get a shelter pet! If they could see what they are missing. She is the same with me as well. She is constantly bringing me her rawhides to share to boot. She is such a true joy. I am blessed as I said in a prior journal by all my furbabies. I enjoy hearing from you. Thank you for your comment as always. Have a great weekend deedee. Hope Mum is well.

That is TOO PRECIOUS! How adorable! ^_^

Thank you very much, how nice of you. Bonnie Rose is one big lover. She is the same with me as well. She is so willing to share everything. She is truly amazing. So nice of you to comment on my journal.

What a cute story! I'm sure there will be feline/canine bonding in the future! Bonnie knows how to work your group for acceptance into the household! Like you my felines are indoor only unless they pull a "Houdini" when they see the opportunity which happens as all but Mr. Fluff have been brought in from the outside. But I have to admit, I have never thought of bringing "critters" in for their amusement!

Oh patty, try a few moths.. the cats go wild. I turn off the porch light put a lamp or turn the foyer light on and the chase is on!. The cats are all but hanging off the ceiling. Its a blast for all of us. Its keeps up their natural instincts plus a protein boost. LOL just be sure you are aware of what type of moth you are getting. Its so much fun to watch them. Try it you will have a huge laugh, good to hear from you. I enjoy your comments as always.

Thank you for you sweet comment. I enjoy reading you comments very much. Bonnie Rose is so loving and is always sharing with me. She tries to get me to share her rawhide bones all the time. We are so honoured to have her in our family and she has truly made our family complete.

That's so true. They're frequently just as loving to their fellow dogs or cats as they are to their humans.

Cheryl you are so correct. Although Cecil and Seville had truly never seen nor been around a dog it has worked out well. I was so concerned to. Bonnie Rose is such a loving spirit. She is so kind. I wish she would understand I can't share in chewing her rawhides though. LOL She is the completion of our family no doubt. I still just don't understand the fear of some people in adopting a rescue. All mine are rescues and look at the gems I have. I always enjoy hearing from you. Thank you. Hope Darla and Lola , of course you to are doing ok. Hugs to the babies. C

I don't think I'd ever heard a concern about rescue until I saw a few comments on zootoo. Apparently some people think they are getting high end, designer merchandise if they buy from a breeder while rescue animals are defective items on the 'sale' shelf.

That's such a cute story! And somewhere, there is a insect rights group waiting to picket your door. I half expected you to say your pup brought a snake inside. Yuk! My mom had a cat who brought her presents and it weirded her our because it would just let them go live in the house like it wanted her to do the final kill. A gift. I am just training my cat to grab crickets, or anything bug like that comes into the house. Crickets eat holes in clothes, so they are fair game to me. Some say they are good luck. Clothes with holes seem like bad luck to me. He is one of those endless players, and you never know if he is going to dispatch of them properly. He dispatches ME very quickly when he attacks though. Go figure! And I bet your brood will be nesting together soon.

Thank you Kim. That would be my luck to have van loads of "Save the grasshoppers" in my lawn. LOL The comment you left was so kind I really appreciate it. Next time I will sneak Bonnie out late at night. LOL

I was thinking the same about the "picketing". LOL

Great Patty and Cheryl I can see it now you two carrying signs in my front lawn with them saying " Groups for Grasshoppers! LOL OH MY! LOL That would be all I need. I would have my can or raid ready. Just kidding...LOL It is sad to see them tortured but at least they do eat them and its all part of the food chain. I will be watching for you though. LOL

As the saying goes, "the circle of life". Don't worry, with gas prices the way they are I won't be picketing you anytime soon!

LOL I was wondering if someone would write in to defend the rights of grasshoppers. I'm never crazy about anything being tortured but grasshoppers can be extremely destructive so I'm never happy to see more than a few.

I just thought of a new business idea for Bonnie. "Bonnie's Pest Control and Grasshopper Removal". LOL

Make her pay for her keep! Is she of "legal" age to have a job?

What a sweet story. Bonnie Rose sure is a smart pup. It'll be interesting to see if all three of them end up nesting together.
