Lady is an escape artist

The last two days, George and I have swapped morning duties. I've been going to work early and he's been kenneling dogs and taking kids to school. The last two days, Lady has greeted the family at the door having escaped from her crate (we have NO IDEA how - George insists he's double checked to door and it's latched tight) and enjoyed the day as a free range dog. The good news is that she has been perfect. She's been drifting into her crate (and James' crate too) in the evenings and just hanging out. Weird.

The other good news is that James peed in his crate just a tiny bit on Tuesday and not at all yesterday. I have no idea if this is related to Lady's run of the house, our work with him, his increasing comfort and confidence, or the full moon. But - we're hopeful.

So - today, we're back to the old routine. I crated the dogs and took the kids to school. I'm anxious for the end of the day to see what we find at home. I think if Lady continues to get out, we may just fold up her little house and let her roam. As for James - here's hoping for another dry day...

Jake quite often goes into his kennel while we're home. I think it's because it's 'his' space.

That Lady slipped out of her inside kennel more than once on me as I was trying to enter. She is sneaky....she also slipped right out of her collar once too. I am glad she is a good girl for you during the day though. I also hope James keeps up the dry spells for you - thanks for the updates!!

Saw her in action this morning and I'll bet she was out before we were in the car. She uses her teeth and nose to push the latch up. Sneaky girl! Interesting to know she has a history and has just been on good behavior. She seems to do fine out and about and she likes to pop into her kennel for a nap so I think we'll just let her keep breaking out. Gives her a puzzle to solve every morning.

The dry spells are over and then some. At some point this morning James lifted his leg on the couch and made quite a puddle on the living room carpet. He looked so sad it about broke my heart - probably reinforced the behavior by loving him up. Oh well - he needs love more than anything. Glad it's Friday so we can love on him all weekend. He shows more stress at the week goes on. If I could work three days instead of 5 I bet he'd do fine.

I wonder about any of the homeopathic anti-anxiety "meds" for James. With my Chloe, I tried one of them (can't remember what now) but didn't see a difference. I also hung lavendar all over, which is supposed to be calming. I don't know that any of it helped her, though, time seemed to be the best cure. Now she's got free run of our house when we are gone and just crates herself when she feels like it.
