IN DEATH SYMAN HELPS OTHER ANIMALS

SYMAN'S CARDIAC FUND
Many of you read my journal about my dearly loved Syman the Siamese that I lost suddenly. It almost was my demise. Syman was not only one of the most beautiful Siamese,my vet even stated that but also the sweetest. His tail went on forever. He also was trained to sing "happy birthday", really I have it on old style tape. He was a great cat. When I was down and out he was always there to comfort me. Syman was a compassionate cat. The day his illness occurred suddenly which led to his death was actually the start of his helping other animals in need. The University Vet School we took him to is wonderful and well known. However whenever one could be facing a huge bill and the pet has to be left for treatment you have to pay a percentage on the spot. I did that day and it was over a thousand dollars. If they do not use the entire fee or your pet passes away you are refunded the unused portion. When we returned to pick up Syman's body we saw many families there that did not have the funds to pay for the pets. As we all know injuries and illnesses are not planned. As my daughter and I stood there crying with our loss over Syman and seeing these families with dearly loved pets that were ill we knew we had to do something. But what??? It then dawned on us that this is a school and we felt sure they needed donations. Syman always wanted to comfort people. We decided we would start a fund for people with cats and dogs with Cardiac issues that don't have the downpayment that is needed to leave a pet for treatment. It doesn't have to be paid back. When they return to pick up their pet they have to bring proof of income to show they qualify for non repayment. (This is the University's rules) However at the time of the emergency the funds are there. Many of my friends asked to make donations when Syman passed away. I asked them all to please do so to "Syman's Cardiac Fund". They did and what a honour to my Syman it is. Syman is still alive in so many ways due to this. He continues to comfort even in passing away. Syman has helped so many animals to date. Even now when I have extra money I continue to add to the fund. This way I know "My Symie" will always be alive and helping others. When my daddy passed away and when anyone I know looses someone I always donate to a rescue instead of flowers. All rescues send cards to the family with an announcement of a donation. They don't list how much if anyone worries about that. It's a great idea to donate in a persons name as that way they can continue to help even in death. Even though it almost killed us to loose Syman and we still cry when we think of him. He is still alive in so many ways helping fellow pets.Syman was a love and would have wanted that. So even in such a sad situation something good came out of it.

I can not tell you how grateful I would be if I was one of those families in need that benefitted from Syman's fund. You've honored your sweet, beautiful Syman's memory in a most wonderful way!

How truly wonderful you are to turn your sadness into a blessing for other people. This is one of the best ways that I've heard of honoring the memory of a loved one. I really like the idea of donating to a rescue, shelter, or other cause instead of sending flowers when someone passes away. Thank you for sharing.

I too would love to see Zootoo do an article on Syman and his memorial fund with information on where to send donations. I am sure that many zootooers including myself would love to donate to such a worthy cause.

Carrie, I would love to see ZooToo do an article about Syman and his Memorial Fund that is helping so many others! This was inspired and means that Syman's life keeps on giving forever!

How nice of you to say. I wish everyone would do something like that to help others. Thank you for the kind words. We tried to make a negative a positive. By doing the Syman's Cardiac Fund it gave us great comfort. If Zootoo ever wanted to know about how to do it or wanted to talk to me about it I would be glad to talk to them. I would hope it would encourage others to do the same thing.

It would be nice if everyone COULD do something like that, but everyone can't. I do what little I am financially able to do for the shelter I support, but it's precious little. As prices rise, what I am able to do shrinks, but the intentions are the best.

I totally understand Julie. I meant nothing against anyone that can't afford to do it. It just would be wonderful is everyone could donate. Many people can't afford to do anything these days with prices as they are. I mainly meant I would like to see more people donate in memory of someone when a death occurs to a organization then send flowers. Which is odd being that has been my livelihood for over 26 years. It just makes sense to me to help someone instead of sending flowers. Don't take it personally. I meant nothing against you.

I don't take anything personally :-)

I don't believe that any amount is too small.

Doesn't even have to be monetary either! Filling envelopes, sweeping floors anything to help counts!

That's why Wiggles and I help at bake sales.

No matter how much or how little any one of us do it all helps! And I'm sure greatly appreciated. Without the pennies they wouldn't get the dollars!

deedee you are always so kind with your words and so complimenting. Thank you. As I told Julie it turned a negative into a positive and that was our goal. I would hope others would donate money to rescue/shelters in memory of loved ones as well. Even me being in the Floral business I still donate to the animals. It does more good then flowers that just die. Thank you for such sweet comments. I was the lucky one to have Syman. Thank you. You are all to kind.

Patty, thank you. I was the lucky one to have him. You always have such kind words. Hope you are having a great weekend.

Great idea Carrie. Do they ever give you any updates on the cats that have been helped? Syman must really be smiling where he's curled up in heaven.

What a wonderful thing you've done. What a loving, living, tribute to a special cat and your relationship with him.

You may want to add donation information to your journal entry in case any Zootooer's have been inspired to contribute to the fund.
