His name is... and man, he can snore.

Well, "Godfrey" came home on friday. First place we went was to meet his Grammy, my mom. She fell in love with him. He was showing off all his commands he knew of sit, down, shake with both paws. Grammy said that she hoped things worked out. Then before leaving, the boy met his Uncle Nelson, my brother. Uncle Nelson seems to think that "Godfrey" might have rott in him with his big head, thick chest and short nose.

We left there to go see Daddy at work. Daddy has been trying to pick out names for the boy. In the meantime, I have been calling him Fat Boy. Can't call him Big Boy as Hrothgar is Big Guy. And there is nothing little about "Godfrey", so Fat Boy is now his nickname.

I told George what Nelson said and he agreed. Then said, "we got rotten chocolate". Yet still no name.

I took Fat Boy home by myself to meet the rest of the furkids. I had a plan. Fat Boy into his kennel before letting the others out of theirs. Then took them out to potty, went back in to get Fat Boy who was on a leash the whole time. There was major "greeting" and sniffing. So far so good.

About 40 minutes and all were laying around that Fat Boy got up to check out something. Alarm had been right beside Fat Boy like "what do you think you are doing". Fat Boy was not doing anything and moved and bumped Alarm. Well, the "touffle" as I called it happend. Alarm snapped at Fat Boy, I yelled, Alarm jumped up on the couch and FatBoy ran under the desk to hide. Nobody was hurt.

It was uneventful the rest of the day.

Then Daddy came home, we all had dinner. Fat Boy learned we don't get to look at others food bowls. He is very smart in some areas.

While watching TV, he played tug of war with George, then laid down beside him. Then off to bed later.

I did not sleep well for several reasons. One it was storming and two, the snoring was deafening. Not only was George and Hrothgar snoring, but so was Fat Boy. We are talking snoring louder than both George and Hrothgar together. And as I type this journal, Fat Boy is laying behind me snoring and it sounds almost like a fog alarm it is so loud.

Any way, in the morning, we got up and had breakfast. So far so good. After breakfast, Fat Boy (yes, still no name), found one of Alarm's toy balls. We are going to try to teach him that those are not his. So we went to get a different toy. Fat Boy was carrying it and of course Alarm right beside him like "what do you think you are doing". I was leading the way back to my office/room and for what ever reason Alarm stopped short. Well this caused Fat Boy to bump into Alarm who then turned on Fat Boy for another "touffle". I yelled, Alarm ran to the front of me and Fat Boy hid behind me. I lectured Alarm and told him to be nice.

Then all was calm, so I went upstairs to shower while George searched the net to check out more Norse Gods' names.

Out of the three George had first picked, I only liked Donar. But I had come up with a couple. One was Narvi who was son of Loki and our first dog was named Loki. The other name was Aegir who is God of the sea, known to host elaborate parties with lavish entertainment for others.

George and I like to have folks over and thought that might fit. Plus Fat Boy lays with his legs out behind him which reminds me of a frog.

So I went to shower. Now mind you that our shower is like a room, you step into it but the step over is like a couple inches tall. The shower room is about 6'x6', so very big. There is also no door.

I stepped in to turn on the water and Fat Boy is in the shower licking the spray from the shower heads. I told him out. I get in and turn around and Fat Boy is back into the shower with me. After the fifth time in the shower with me and me kicking him out each time, I thought Aegir fit him.

You see, on one wall of the shower room is a mosaic tile picture of Poseidon who is the also the Greek God of the sea. Aegir is Norse God of the Sea.

I told George my thought and told him to think about it.

Well the name is Aegir.

Sounds like Aegir has made himself right at home. Congratulations on your new "baby". We have a 14 year old chocolate lab....and, believe me he will be a big part of your family. And, I loved the part about him showering with you...too cute.

I am glad Aegir is home at last and has a new name. Hope all is going well with your other furkids and him.

I LOVE the name. Woohoo for Aegir, home at last! ^_^ Gotta love a snorer, my Kelsie snores VERY LOUD, too. Sounds like a Kodiak Bear is in the room!

That George, 'rotten chocolate', he's a trip! LOL Bet there's never a dull moment between George & the furkids!

Never is correct and that is why I love them all.

It sounds like everything is going pretty smoothly for all involved.
George ,I hate to say it,but I loved Betty's name choice of Aegir, and then hearing about him in the shower, really seemed to finalize it as being the perfect name.
( I also once owned a beautiful Betta who had the same name),so that helped.
Sounds like you guys will have a summer full of interesting journals to read!

Betty even got to pick his name. But he looks like he's gonna be a Daddy's boy.

So, do you pronounce Aegir's name "Eager?" Since he's so eager to please, to fit in, to play, to eat, to snore, and so on?!!!! If you put him on a diet and slim him down a tad, the snoring might lessen a bit, but it sounds like there are already two snorers in the house, so "the third snorer's a charm!"

Pronounced (short a-jeer)

As for the snoring, I can deal. Have for years. But yesterday starting the farting. And man, it sent even Hrothgar out of the room.

What a great name, and it does seem to fit. Glad everything is working out, hopefully Alarm will accept him and maybe even share his toys. I'm sure Hrothgar and Aegir will become the best of pals as well! Nacho is a snorer-so between the farting and the snoring he can be a difficult bed mate at times, but we're lived through it so far. Go buy some ear plugs and get you a good nights rest.

The farting started a few hours ago. I am sure it is just change of food, but still. He can really let them. Even Hrothgar leaves the room.

It's got to be the change in food !!! His entire system has been thrown for a loop...new food, new house, new family!

And the poop has been soft. I had the shelter tech do a fecal check and neg. So I am sure change of food. I feed Innvo now which is a more natural food and I know the prison gets the mix of Pedigree, purina, nutro, and whatever else we get. So big change. Plus stress.

I can tell you that I gave him some pepto and he really did not like it one bit. But hoping that will help calm the belly.

Well welcome to Aegir!!! Although I thought it was George's turn to name! Obviously a fitting name since he apears to be fond of water. Best to all the family and I'm sure the kids will behave. There always is a little jelousy when a new one arrives!

Yes, it was George's turn to name which meant it would be Norse for sure. We just had to find the right one. And with so many Gods to pick from, the meaning or job of that God is what we had to figure out.

Donar is another name for Thor who was a "brother" to Loki. And our first dog was named Loki. So I can see why that name. But after really looking into the names, I liked Aegir.

The final decision was George's. We were down to Donar and Aegir. He picked Aegir.

And just before this comment, a little bit of play between Hrothgar and Aegir. Just a bit.
