Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?

My wife Betty has informed me she wants to bring home another doggie. His (currrent) name is Godfrey. He is a chocolate lab. He a true chocolate not a "milk chocolate" as we call our boy Hrothgar. Hrothgar is a lab, weimaraner mix.... we think??? Anyway she's been saying this for about 2 weeks now. I keep ignoring her.... but it never really works... she thinks she can wear me down... Dosen't she know I have a will of Iron... That what ever I set my mind to I can do..... She apparently forgets how much food Hrothgar eats, how can I afford another Chubby Lab. She also has forgotten how much abuse i take from Biggie(Hrothgar) He bites me every time I come home, He makes me rub his belly every day sometimes more than once. And don't forget our other children. Differ (Daddy's little girl) She needs special attention from her daddy. And Alarm.... ball, ball, ball, ball ball, rest, ball, ball, ball, (you get the Idea) Where would I find time for another one to love...

Ok, so here's where you come in. I need your words of support, otherwise Betty will have her way. She usually does....

We can't fit another body into the bed. That right there should be reason enough. But I'll need more ammo, please give me your suggestions so next time Betty Brings it up I'll have more to say!

Help, or I'm soon to be drowning in doggies.

I wondered what the purchase was going to be! A kennel and two new beds (dog beds!!) sounds like a great evening's shopping! Welcome home, new Chocolate Boy! We knew you'd "git r done," Betty! Not saying George is a pushover, but we all knew he couldn't resist Godfrey!

I got a text from George today.

"bring him home"

I of course said "who"

"you know who"

"u sure"

"yea"

"need to shop for him"

"tell me when"

"tonight"

"kedoke"

"can bring home on friday"

"kewl"

Now the kennel is purchased and set up. There is a new bed for Hrothgar who really needed one and a new one for Godfrey.

George is going to name the boy. He does not think he likes the name Godfrey. So not sure what the name will be. I am just so happy and really want this to work.

So thanks all for the support.

See my Journal on Godfrey's meeting with Hrothgar and George.

Why are you boycotting Mickey D's George????

Let's just say it's a total lack of respect for the customer.

yes george, why!!!

And a total lack of mac sauce on my quarter pounder.

George forgot that it is Burger King who let's you have it your way.

You are so right, I'm sure at Mickey D's their Motta is the same as my pizza guys motto quote: "You'll have it my way or not at all" LOL!

Here's hoping that the big meeting goes over really well.I can't imagine what we'd do if Hrothgar, isn't a happy camper, after all this build-up.I'm sure that Betty's instincts are good though.I'm so excited---I can't wait!

The Meeting is scheduled today at 12:30. We are returning dogs from the shelter who did not get adopted at this weekend event. That time will be 12:15. I will be there along with Hrothgar getting the dogs into the prison. Then Hrothgar and I are going into the prison to meet Godfrey with his foster handler.

If all goes well, then I am taking Godfrey out for a few hours to meet George. I am really hoping it goes well.

I just keep telling myself of the time that Hrothgar and Harlem first met. The first time was really bad and I took Harlem back to the shelter in less than 30 minutes. The next time was still not the best and there was nothing but three days of growling from Hrothgar to Harlem who had found every single toy in the house to get Hrothgar to play with him. After three full days, the next day Hrothgar woke up and decided to play with Harlem and they were best buds.

I just am a little worried that Hrothgar might not like a bouncing baby brother who is really full of energy. After call Hrothgar is 12 and Godfrey is 4. But hoping too that having a younger brother will get Hrothgar playing more.

So getting ready to head back to prison with Hrothgar.

I was just informed by Betty today that Godfrey is a "Toy Boy". Now not only do I have to find room in the bed and buy more food, but now I have to add toys to the budget. Honestly after Differ's allowance for clothes there's not much left in the wallet.

Sounds like there needs to be a "fundraiser" for his toys and Differs clothes!

Now thats the best idea I've heard here yet!

Where are those magazine subscriptions and candy bars.... Only 100 more and I win a Bike!

Oh George, just looked at some of the pic's on Betty's profile and from the outfits I don't think a fundraiser will sufice, Dude you need at least another job if not 2!! Have you tried claiming them as dependants on our taxes? The clothes expence should make them qualify, at least Differ's should. LOL

I'm glad you can see that all the women in my life are spoiled and very high maintenance!

I have asked that same question with my accountant...

He said, you can try....

i think the only way to recoup your money would be stock in the dog clothing manufacturer, LOL!

oh and BTW some women collect $200 shoes or $350 pocket books, i on the other hand, like my dogs. i like to think my husband is the lucky one- i have exquisite taste, so a few hundred bucks a YEAR for a handful of dogs is a drop in this addicts bucket.
sorry, i guess i am on betty's side with this one too, LOL!

Thank god the only "clothes hound" in the house is Differ! I'm pretty sure her clothing budget is a little more than a few hundred bucks!!!

...but she's daddy's little girl and gets anything she wants.

so is godfrey in??? or is the jury still deliberating??? :0)

If when you say "jury" you mean Betty it's all but decided... but if you mean an impartial judgement made after weighing all the facts.... then the "jury" (Me) is still out. At least till Hrothgar gets to meet him....

by jury i mean you, hrothgar, differ and alarm, not the (non-) impartial judge. (betty)

the jury does have power to give recommendations to the court, yet the judge does have final decision and can overrule the jury (read: make sleep on the couch) if deemed necessary. :0)

Thanks Amy. I am glad you are trying to get George to understand better. After 25 years of being together, you would think he had it figured out.

If the weather is nice, Hrothgar and I are going into the prison after lunch to meet Godfrey. Then if all goes well there, George has to meet him. But I know George will fall in love with the bouncing baby boy. So keeping fingers crossed for good weather.

I forgot to mention that over half of the large milkshake came home and was given to an ice cream loving neighbor. Wiggles, who got a Milk Bone Senior biscuit for dessert, is still as svelte and sleek as ever! So, although this isn't exactly 'on topic' for Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, with Wiggles, I don't think we're ever in any danger of starving!

Where's George? Guess Who's Coming to Dinner is just not the same without you! We may have to get Godfrey to start making comments! After all, he's in the Prison Program and probably learning to use computers while he's there, too, being as how he's training to become a new member of the Peyton Place Pups and needs to "bone up" on his skills and charms so as to wow you into being his newest human pal! Don't sweat it, George; things will work out just fine, so long as you know your place -- which may soon be the FLOOR!!!! LOLROFL As the very savvy last commenter says, What's Another Dog? Just more to love! Yeah, I know -- easy for me to say, having Wiggles Blue Heeler, but it's not as quiet as it looks. Just last evening, we were out walking at one of our walking places, communing with the Canada geese, when out of the blue came honk, Honk, HONK!!! It was three members of Wiggles' fan club, who stopped to love on him for a few minutes. After that, we went to Micky D's (nearest location selling strawberry MILKshakes) and I ordered a small shake. When we pulled up to the window where you pay, the guy smiled real big and said, "Hi, WIGGLES!" He took my money (I honestly don't think he knows, or CARES, my name, which is okay, 'cause I don't know his, either, but he loves Wiggles!), gave me my change and we pulled up to the pick-up window. Everyone was grinning Cheshire Cat grins and the lady that usually gives Wiggles either a McNugget or a piece of bacon was grinning the biggest of all. Guess what Wiggles got? A LARGE shake!!! And the usual bowl from which to slurp his part. Lest anyone reading this be concerned about Wiggles eating regular people shakes, he only gets about a cup, about once a week or ten days. The funnest part is the adulation and people that he climbs over me to get to and receive his pats, scratches, and yes, even Kisses! Of course, being as how one of his many nicknames is Many Kisses, he's also very generous in dispensing those kisses, so anyone getting near him is subject to a slurp or a damp bussing (kiss)! I keep those antibiotic wipes on hand to offer kiss recipients, especially those working in food service, so we don't gross out other customers, and also to keep Wiggles nice and clean! So, George, where are you, Doggie Transport Guy? We have enquiring minds and want to know if you've been shopping with Betty for welcome home presents for Godfrey!

What's another dog? The last dog I brought into the house was an English mastiff. We already had 3 large breeds, all indoors, of course. Trust me, going from 3 to 4 is not that bad. Just give in. The woman always wins. :)

So you know my wife? She always wins... and when she doesn't I sooner or late wish she had!

I really wish George would learn like the dogs have. I always win is very correct. I am always right. And after 23 years together, you would think George had it right. That Betty always wins.

Sitting here LMAO on this, all the visuals I'm getting!! George, from first mention of "bringing home the chocolate" you knew there was no stopping her, What does a female like more that chocolate!! And you always have something to look forward to, with a new fur blanket to add to the existing you can save some money on your fuel bills by turning the heat down a little, God knows you'll need to feed them all!
And I believe it's safe to say Betty has you wrapped and what Betty wants you know you'll give her! I'm sure all the kids will enjoy having a new brother!

Let's get things straight right here and now. Betty does not have me wrapped around her little finger... I am the man of the house and what I say goes...

usually....

key word here being "usually" LOL

And USUALLY, what George says goes right out the window.

Yes, I do love chocolate of all kinds. So adding another chocolate boy to the house would be sweet.

The answer is simple: Get another King Size Bed, for you and the new guy! We all know on this end, that Betty is gonna win, and if you don't sway and play, you'll be the one with the doghouse out back! Your dogs have it made, and so do you! Betty has to be a sweetheart, and I bet you are just a teddy bear/marshmellow tuffy kind of animal lover. Soooooooo, welcome the new kid on the bed, and get over it! It's gonna happen. Give in! Betty gets my vote!!!!!!!!!

I guess I could sleep in the doggie room... They sure don't!

I have decided, when I die I want to be reincarnated as one of your pets. After looking at all your pictures, those dogs have it made in the shade! They are all sweethearts. But after seeing how big they all are.....how do you all fit in the bed??? I guess George may have a point...a small one that can be worked out easily, but still a point. haha

Ah Ha!! So you are starting so see things my way! I can work with this...

By the way my doggies are spoiled....

so is Betty...

The dogs are really spoiled. Differ has her own closet filled with clothes. Alarm also has a few. It is harder to find ones to fit him. Hrothgar has about a dozen sweaters for when winter gets really cold.

They have their own room which is bigger than our bedroom. Their room has a little kitchen area with double sink. We had hoped once we moved back after the remodel, we could leave them loose in their room while we are gone. That lasted 3 days because on day 4, we pulled the door frame off the wall, took a bite out of the door, trashed a bunch of stuff. So they still have to be kenneled when we leave.

They want for nothing and get more than they ask. Spoiled is the word.

George & Betty, I must tell you that I'm enjoying this Journal Entry so much that there may be a law against it!!! The mental pictures I'm getting of Godfrey learning how to push George out of the bed (and especially after Godfrey wins over Alarm, Differ and Hrothgar and all FOUR push him out at once!!!!) are priceless!

Not sure if you notice the power point on the TV at the event on saturday. Cindy and Julie had put Godfrey's picture up where with "hey george, heard you are my new daddy". George was like "hum".

George just can not believe nobody has sided with him. I keep telling him that one look at Godfrey and it is over.

Yes, I saw the powerpoint with George's new fur-son, Godfrey. Gotta tell ya, "Fur Daddy" really fits and I hope it sticks! Godfrey sure looks confident that he's soon to be a member of your household and I don't see George's chances improving at all, other than his chance to take another step down in the pecking order!!!!! SAW-ree, George!!!!

The title should be changed to " Guess who's coming forever ? !!!!

Good one! I think you got that one right.

Godfrey went to prison for some training. I am taking Hrothgar there one day for a meet and greet with Godfrey. Hrothgar can be very dominate. But I also know that Godfrey is very submissive. I want the boys to meet on neutral ground and Hrothgar goes to the shelter with me too much so that is second home. But he has never been to prison. So hoping that will help.

I don't think Alarm and Differ will really care. We will just have to wait and see.

I hope the meet and greet goes well for Godfrey and his potential, and hopefully soon- to - be, siblings. It would be nice if Godfrey got the blessing of having the peytonplace as his forever home. Wishing you all and Godfrey the best of luck...and crossing my fingers! ^_^

My lab Rex was not having Nacho in the house at first. So I took them both down to the park in my neighborhood and had treats and they got use to each other on neutral ground. We went walking around the neighborhood a few times and Rex was more comfortable with him coming in. Nacho did make the mistake of trying to hump Rex-didn't work out well for Nacho and he has learned not to do that again. They have now become big time playmates and Sugar will join in and take sides sometimes. She is a little drama queen! Good luck with everything! Hopefully all the dogs will blend well and everyone will be happy and find their own new spots in the bed. Sorry George hehe!

The day I brought Harlem home, I took him straight back to the shelter. I made that mistake of just bringing him home and Hrothgar was ready to kill Harlem. The next week, Hrothgar, Freya (who has passed away in 2002) went to the shelter to meet Harlem. I put them all in the large exercise area and left them. I think Hrothgar thought I turned him back in as he came from the shelter just 7 months earlier.

I loaded them all up after 5 minutes and brought them home. Left the two big boys on leashes. Harlem found the toys and would take them to Hrothgar who would growl. Harlem would drop that toy and bring another one. Hrothgar would growl and Harlem would drop that toy and bring another one. It was like Harlem was saying "I want to play with you with which ever toy you want us to play with". Hrothgar was just sayaing "not playing with you now."

Sunday, monday, tuesday all growling. A little bit of play on tuesday evening at Grandma and Pawpaw. Wednesday morning, Hrothgar decided it was time to play. He had to let Harlem know that Hrothgar was boss and play happens when he says so. They were best buds.

Alarm and Differ were puppies and respect Hrothgar completely as top dog.

So just got to hope Godfrey will respect Hrothgar as top dog also.

dog's on the BED! i need to know your secret betty, LOL!

It all started in 1986 when we got our first puppy named Loki. We brought it home and George said "now it sleeps on its bed on the floor". I said "okay", rolled over and scooped the pup up on to my side of the bed. George did not realize what I did and was so amazed it had quit crying and all I said was "yep".

From that day on, we have always had dogs in the bed.

The dogs usually start out in their beds on the floor. Then the "sneakers" start. Harlem who passed away last July was a great sneaker into the bed. He was 85 pounds, but you never knew when he got into the bed. He was slick about it. He always knew he could curl around mommy's leg as I loved it. Slowly the other dogs would sneak into the bed. it got to the point we had to make them wait until at least 7:30, but it gets earlier than that sometimes.

But they all always have their spot in the bed.

Hrothgar was my "hat" at the top, Harlem around the curve in my legs, Alarm between George and me and Differ was around George's legs. At one point, Harlem and Hrothgar traded spots because Hrothgar would get too hot to stay in the bed. Once Harlem passed away, Differ's got that spot. So it will be interesting to see where Godfrey will fit if he gets to come home.

Again, it will have to depend on if the three dogs like him.

Well, when I decided to adopt Nacho I just did it...then told my husband later. I knew he would at first say NO...but after he saw him it would change, and it did. I think if your wife really wants to get Godfrey she should get him. You'll be surprised how much love you have to go around-it never runs out! Nacho was such a perfect blend between our other dogs and I can't imagine NOT having him. So my advice is get a bigger bed and scoot over!

Thanks for the support Paiges.

And to be honest, the dogs are not allowed in the bed until 7:30 am and George usually gets up at 8:00. So for 30 minutes he would be crowded.

It's more like 6:30 or 6:00 if they can get away with it.

Well, I'm sure he could squeeze another one in for 30 minutes! My husband doesn't like the lab in the bed with us. But Sugar and Nacho sleep with us or they will sit at the foot of the bed and cry. Rex sleeps with me when my husband is out of town working and is the biggest snuggler! I still vote to get Godfrey, if you want him then he was meant to be with you!

I have gotten no words of support, or even a good argument to use. It seems most are saying bring him home, "George will just have to scootch over!"

(Sound of heavy sigh)

What??????? You mean Godfrey isn't home yet? Wow,Betty really does have some patience and control.(Or maybe she is just enjoying the torture that you're getting from all of us!!)LOL

Godfrey is in the prison program learning a few basic commands first before coming home??!!

I'm so sorry, didn't mean to upset ya George! But I totally believe there is a connection between pet and owner...and if Betty really wants Godfrey then that connection is already made. I will say you don't have to scoot over, just buy Godfrey a big nice comfy pillow and everyone is happy!

Sorry George, I agree with Betty about adding Godfrey to the family. Im sure that Hrothgar, Alarm and Differ will also agree with me. It also sounds like you are a super fur-daddy so I'm sure that you can handle one more!

Fur-Daddy!! I like that....

Hey Barbara, you are so right. George is a super fur-daddy. The dogs love him. I think George was just hoping that he could get a few supporters. I told him he was asking the wrong group of folks.

I have found that ZooTooer's are an intelligent and well spoken group of people. And that when presented with a well thought out argument would be able to provide some much needed insight.

I was hoping for a few supporters tho. :-)

There, there George(pat on the back)!!!!!

Well George, I have to agree with all the others. Welcome home Godfrey! All he has to do is pass the Differ, Alarm, Hrothgar test and he is in. Maybe you can have a baby shower and ask for new sheets for that California king you are going to be needing. You may also want to request a skid of dog food and a pooper scooper service. Best wishes. Sorry you did not feel the love from all the zootoo gang. You and Betty did provide many laughs though. Just remember we are laughing with you, not at you. After all I am the one with a HERD of horses. The bed is not invaded, however the feed bills are steep and so is the manure piles.

I sure am glad I don't have to pooper scoop at your place.

: )

Theresa, you make such terrific (and reasonable!) points/suggestions! A baby shower! Pooper Scooper Service! Skid(s) of kibble! But wait! I just thought of another idea that might just work!!! George could install some sort of hanging/swinging kind of hammock bed in the bedroom (over the existing bed, so he can still reach down and pet Differ), just for him! I have absolutely no idea how he'd get in and out of it, but Betty: Think of how much more room this would free up in the current bed or the new California King for Godfrey and even MORE future furkids!

I like the Pooper Scooper Service. I might have to check that out.

As for the love of the zootoo gang, bet your last dollar that I am feeling the love.

Hey Betty........where are you going to "register" for the shower?!!!!!!!!!

Is there a "Pets-R-Us" or "Dogs-R-Us"?

Long as it is not Beagles-R-Us. That is our local beagle rescue. Can't hand a beagle in the house.

Oh Betty, you're so ORNERY! LOL You know you'd LOVE to have a BEAGLE! ^_^ How about this...first Godfrey, then a BEAGLE next month, since George is the President and member of the 'Bring One Shelter Pet Home Per Month Club'!

Wonder what that journal would look like! LOL (Sorry, George, couldn't resist!) ^_^
