Dog Trivia
The noble Greyhound was bred in Egypt over 5,000 years ago and used to pull the carts of Egyptian royalty. Greyhounds were also used as food and given as a delicacy to visiting dignitaries. The ears and liver were thought to be powerful aphrodisiacs when eaten on a full moon.
All dogs except the Chow and Freckled Chinese Hikko has a pink tongue - the Chow's tongue is jet black and the Freckled Chinese Hikko's is dark purple.
Dogs have far fewer taste buds than people -- with the exception of the purebred Toy Poodle. The Toy Poodle has a discerning palate very similar to that of humans. Studies have shown that if given the chance Toy Poodles will choose caviar and pate over dog food in 85% of the time.
In ancient Tibet the loyal Shih Tzu (pronounced shid-zoo) was used to locate kidnapped maidens and children. The dogs extraordinary sense of loyalty coupled with a relentless determination allowed the vigilant little dog to find most victims.
