Deserving Shelter

I am hopeful that the Washington Area Humane Society in Eight Four, Pennsylvania wins the Zootoo make over. This is a very old shelter that is in dire need of updating. The areas are small and even though the buildings are in some areas falling down around their heads. they are constantly trying to do the best they can.
They cover a fairly large area which is combines city and rural areas. Peope have a very misguided idea that if you drop an animal off on a country road, someone will pick it up and care for it. In our area, it is the Washington Area Humane Society which also takes in unwanted dogs and cats. In fact, I adopted my dog Cuddles in 2007 from this shelter. He had been abonded in a trailer with no heat in the middle of winter and no food or water. The landlord went to the trailer after 2 weeks and found him. He was very thin and his hair was very sparse. He has cataracts and was 12 years old. Jeanne, the woman in charge of fostering, called and asked if I would consider taking him in as a foster. Of course I said yes. One week after I got him, he needed to have 8 teeth pulled. Well, after 2 months of fostering, I just decided to adopt him. He gets along well with my other baby, Rylee, and when I come home at after work he just gets so excited and happy. He is constantly "kissing" me and needs to be with me at all time. What a wonderful feeling he brings to my heart! If it was not for the Washington Area Humane Society, I am sure he would have been put down due to his medical conditions and his age. Thankfully they were there and were able to rescue him. I am forever grateful to them for bring this wonderful little guy into my life.
Considering the area they cover and the amount of space that they actually have to shelter these animals, many animals are turned away due to lack of room. If the shelter won the makeover, they would be in a position to rescue and help many more animals and perhaps expand their rescue to include farm animals which often need to be rescued in our area.
I know all shelters feel they deserve to win, and I am sure that they all are deserving, but there can be only one top winner of the contest. Hopefully, through this contest all shelters that have participated and even those that did not have gained public awareness that will not just be momentary. This contest is a blessing for all just because of the publicity that you have generated toward the plight of animals.
Your consideration in picking the Washington Area Humane Society as the top prize winner will be greatly appreciated by all in this area - especially the animals!!
