COULD PURPLISH GUMS IN DOG BE NORMAL?

Little Grey Chihuahua with purple gums
After losing my 3rd Bichon in the past year and a half (ages 15) on Thursday, I decided to adopt animals that REALLY NEED HOMES. We asked the Shelter people in Picayune, MS which animals really needed a home--not that any do not. And so, We chose a BEAGLE MIX (2yo)that is receiving a "modified" treatment for heartworms, a daschund, and a CHIHUAHUA. The CHIHUAHUA (2 yo) is GREY and when I lifted up her lip I noticed that her gums were a grey purplish color; Not pink. I was unable to lift her eyelid to visualize the tissue but did noticethat both eyes were a little bloodshot. She was nervous and upset and wonder if this might have dpleted her O2 supply. The rules do not allow visitors to touch the animals due to infections but the tech, upon our request, allowed us to hold the little girl upsetting her even more probably. We have applied for adoption but am worried about the CHIHUAHUA'S GUM COLOR. I have read that CHOWS have dark pigmented gums, but nothing about CHIHUAHAS, other than the small breeds of which 10-20% have heart related problems. Because her skin coloring is rare to me..I have never seen a grey Chihuahua..I was wondring whether anyone has had this experience "as being normal" with this or any other breeds not noted to have this dark pigmentation. Your immediate attention would be greatly appreciated.
