C'mon fellow ZooTooers! Bobbi & the Strays needs our help to stave off homelessness...

As many of you know, I am affiliated with Cat Welfare Association of Columbus, Ohio. But this journal entry is not about my shelter, but about another shelter that is in the direst of needs. Today, I learned from susan9207's journal entry "What about everyone else?" that Bobbi & the Strays' lease of the VetPort facilities at JFK airport, which is the shelter for their animals, will run out in December. They need to find another building to call home very soon or they and all of the animals under their charge will face homelessness. Bobbi & the Strays needs $1,000,000 to purchase a new facility, and right now they only have a quarter of that amount in their building funds.

So, my challenge to you is this: donate a small sum of money, whatever you want and can spare (even $1 would be great), to the building fund for Bobbi & the Strays. Then, create a journal entry--you can even cut & paste this one--of your own, so that everyone on your friends' list will become aware of Bobbi's plight. Ask your friends to do the same, donate and create a journal entry for THEIR friends. Who knows? Maybe Bobbi will get that $1,000,000 after all from the ZooToo community. But it has to start somewhere. Let it start with YOU!!!

Here's the information I found from Bobbi & the Stray's website. You can send your donations to:

Bobbi and the Strays
P.O. Box 170129
Ozone Park, N.Y. 11417
tel: 718-845-0779 (call this number for more info).

Make cheques payable to Bobbi & the Strays. Specify that your donation is going towards the building fund.

For more information, consult their website atwww.petfinder.com

You can also make your contributions by PayPal or credit card online. Simply go to Bobbi's website and click on the icon "donate now through Network for Good." It's that simple!

This is what ZooToo is all about--helping us help each other!

Brenda just wrote a new journal in which she said that Bobbi and the Strays has received $958 to date from Zootooers for the Building Fund.

Thank you everyone for your continuing support!

We just received an update on the total donations received from you wonderful Zootooers. Since the journals started, Bobbi and the Strays has received $745 in checks, cash and online donations! That's just in a week's time.

Some of you sent the nicest notes of support. Bobbi was in tears as she read them. The outpouring of love and support has been really wonderful.

I know I've said this before, but it really is giving us hope that we will be able to meet our deadline.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

from everyone at Bobbi and the Strays

Mary - thank you so much. You are simply great with a humongous heart!!! Thank you so much for all of your hard work on this campaign - it is so greatly appreciated. ;- )

Thank you so much everyone - for your generosity in getting the word of our plight out - as well as for your donations. Everything is so greatly appreaciated. Please be sure to check outwww.BobbiAndTheStrays.org as well. You can donate on-line using your credit card or banking account.

And don't forget - some employers have workplace giving or matching gift programs. Please check with your HR department if you are ready to give - to see if they will match your donation. Bobbi and the Starsy also participates in United Way - you can give through work - directly to Bobbi and the Strays by lsiting us on the United Way form. (Employers usually match contributions for United Way too.)

It is tough being located in New York City. So anyone that is able to give - even if it is just a dollar - it will most certainly help! You know that they say - All you need is a dollar and a dream! Well we have the dream - we just need more dollars. : - )

A few other ways to help raise money.

Maybe you’re a baker or a candy maker and something you make/bake is a big hit with friends and co-workers. Why not make a batch or two and sell to friends and co-workers donating the profit to help Bobbi and the strays. What about the amount you may have saved on your weekly grocery bill using coupons, if you shop where they double the amount why not donate the amount you saved on the doubling. You still get your cents off with the coupon and have a way to send a dollar or two to help Bobbi. There are numerous way we can help without hurting our own wallet. Think about it.

Let's do some brainstorming and see if there are other ways to raise more money. Maybe we can convince our shelters, or neighbourhood grocery / pet stores, to put a canister at their front desk soliciting donations for the "Save Bobbi & the Strays from homelessness" funds. Or convince Purina to match our donations (raised through ZooToo) with food, so that Bobbi can use more of their resources towards the purchase of a new building. It would be nice to have a feature news story on ZooToo about this as well. Other ideas???

I cut and pasted this plus added on to it.Sent to my friends outside of Zootoo.

Thank you for spreading the word to a wider circle.

Maybe others will continue to do the same.

There are so many caring people in the world who would probably help the animals if they were given the chance, but if they don't know about the problem, they can't be part of the solution.

This may have been already suggested, but sending email messages to your Zootoo friends might be more helpful than journal entries. A lot of my friends log in just once in a great while. However, if they see there's a message waiting for them on Zootoo, they'll check in again. Just a thought.

Maybe shelters in need of buildings can contact local financial institutions and see if they have any foreclosed buildings that aren't in condition to sell at retail. Maybe if you hit them at the right time, you'll get lucky if they want the property off of their books. Have a PR plan in your back pocket so they can get publicity right along with the shelters. They need all the good publicity they can get right now.

Don't worry, we will all be working together to help out, I will be making a donation as well but am telling my friends too.

The trick is not only to donate, but to spread the word!!! Even if every person contributed $1, even if we started off with a small group of 10 people doing this, we can still get $1,000,000 after less than 5 generations....as long as every person recruited 10 people to do the same, and those people each recruited 10 more, and so on and so forth. Of course, I'm sure many people will donate more than $1. Everything good in life starts with someone having faith, and I'm convinced all of us on this messageboard has it....

I printed this out and will make out a check tonight. Does anyone know if they have identified a property yet? If not, they should start working on it. I have faith.
