cheech and chong

Last June I came home from work and was horrified to see my boyfriend had brought 2 baby turkies home. I was so upset saying what are we going to do with them? They ended up really opening up my eyes. They had the funniest personalities. They would follow you around the yard like a dog, my grandkids would ride their bikes up and down the driveway and they would run after them honking the whole way. They were extremely aware of all their surroundings and actually appeared to be in awe of new surroundings and areas. They loved to drink out of the hose. They never tried to bite me. But in the back of my mind I knew this was not going to be good. Turkeys are not for pets, genetically they are made to grow very fast, which they did.I knew they were in the food chain. So actually I was being tortured. We were unfortunate to get 2 males and they started being extremely aggressive with each other, then 5 minutes later they would be calling to be with each other. We gave them to the heifer project knowing their fate. I loved those turkeys and will never forget them. I am grateful for what they taught me and will always remember my summer with cheech and chong.
