Why is it no one likes black cats? My Big Dummy is not doing well in the Pet Wars. 2 wins and 5 losses. Maybe he is not cute so to speak but he is absolutly beautiful. I don't get why anyone would not like them, or black dogs either, I have read they are the hardest ones to find homes for in shelters.

People are just dumb & superstitious. Your cat is beautiful. We have had several black cats and they have been a joy. Their coat is so shiny. We have no problem picking black cats, but we definitely keep them in at halloween. I am fairly new to this site. What are the pet wars? And where do I vote? I did not know that they are healthier. Learned something new.

I've always loved black cats. I have been chosen by cats of other colors and loved them just as much, but give me a choice, and its a black cat for me.

Another reason people might not think they're as cute is that they are harder to photograph well. I have 1 black cat and half the time in photos you can really only see the outline of his body.

hey. i haven't had a chance to check out this "pet war' thing but i just wanted to say that i love black cats! i have just two now. they are very, very smart (yet can act totally goofy at the same time); mischievious and loving. i have yet to meet a black cat that wasn't beautiful!

I completly agree with you. Nobody like black cats or dogs becasue I think they still believe in that stupid old tale that black cats bring bad luck. I have a black cat and I love her to pieces. I don't get why people judge everything on the color black anyway. Black cats and dogs are the same as other dogs and cats....I love black cats and would adopt one anyday!

I empathize completely. I have a black cat (Miles) who is just gorgeous with the softest fur and swestest disposition ever. People who judge animals (cat or dog, etc.) based on their black color are reacting to old wives tales, plain ignorance or meaness.

You are absolutely right. Black cats and dogs are the hardest to find homes for in shelters. I think perhaps it's because there are so many of them, just like tabby cats. I for one love black cats and always have. I have two right now, Mr. Whiskers and Delilah, and they are both beautiful and as sweet as loving as they can be. I think black cats look like miniature black panthers. My two have fur like black velvet.

My black cats have not done well with the pet wars either. I don't know if it was your cat or not, but I did vote for a black cat the other day.

I like black cats. There is a black, smooth furred cat that hangs out around our house that's very nice (His name is Panther but we just call him Pan for short, which doubles as Pan, the Greek god of the wild, as I just found out). I read somewhere that it's only America that considers black cats "unlucky", and that just about everywhere else considers them "lucky" because something in a black cats genes keep them from having certain diseases that other cats can get. I read that in the National Geographic magazine.

Superstition and silliness, plus quality of the photograph. I personally find grey cats the most difficult to photograph. Try photographing your black kitty against a really striking colored blanket--like red to get him/her to stand out. Also the form and shape of a black cat is harder to distinguish than a cat with markings such as spots or stripes.
The Chinese consider black cuts lucky. It is a matter of cultural and personal preference. I think black cats have the best personalities to interact with humans. Not always the best with interacting with other cats.

I love black cats especially fluffy ones like yours. I think it feeds into some odd misconception that cats are evil - especially black cats. I have a black cat and she is the most gentle cat I have ever met, much less owned.

I live in WNY and people just really don't like cats. For example say : I don't like cats. They are sneaky. I grew up in Syracuse a few hundred miles away and never heard anything like that. We need a really perception shift in WNY.

I think your black fuzzy is gorgeous!

I have 2 black cats and also teach photography. Black cats are harder to photograph. My girl (medium hair) is doing better in Pet Wars than my boy (long hair) She shows up better in a photograph than he does. My sister calls the male "a mop with eyes". In person he is more striking than the female.

I agree. My truman is getting passed by too. Yellow tabby cats get the votes and do not even lift a paw. His photo was good enough to get into a large newspaper in our area.
