A successful signing, and more horse news :)

Despite having a terribly hot day yesterday (near 100 degrees in NJ...), my friend Randi Clarken and I had a very successful book signing at Greene's Beans Cafe in Sparta--I sold a number of copies of both Janie's New Legs and Luck of the Draw, which means both ReRun and Somerset Hills Handicapped Riding Center will be receiving some much-needed donation checks this week. It's always a great feeling to help out such great charities. :)
If you would like to check out a few photos from the event, please visitcayuse.8k.com
I'll be having several more events this year-- a full list is available atwww.booktour.com (no national tour yet, but I'm hoping to take a signing trip to CA next year sometime). :)
On a pet-related note, some of my husband's co-workers came out to meet my horse Luna yesterday and she was a total ham...she also enjoyed a bath (it was so hot, I hosed myself down as well ;)). Unfortunately, my camera wasn't working by that point, but she made some very funny faces!
Well, I do have ONE funny/cute photo, but not from yesterday--I write freelance for several local newspapers and one published their special Horse Country edition feature this past week. My editor decided to surprise me and pulled a very cute pic of Luna (and me kissing her) off my website for use in another article--you can see it atcayuse.8k.com (the article is a sad subject, but at least the photo is upbeat :)).
I don't know how much of you know this story, but recently my friend and I were able to save two embryo-transfer mares who had been used in a breeding program for Morgan showhorses--one of the horses is a Standardbred who was obviously abused sometime in the past (she is terrified of being caught and thinks you will hit her). The other is a gentle draft cross. I have some photos of them attuorto.8k.com --since neither my friend or I could afford to keep these horses long-term, we are thankfully able to donate these two mares to REASON Horse Rescue in PA (www.reasonhorserescue.com).
REASON is very hopeful that the draft mare (Chica) can get a home almost immediately and with some rehab and TLC, I'm sure Classy will too (they've both been boarded at the same farm as my horse for over a year and have had excellent care during that time, but we rescued them so they wouldn't be so repeatedly bred or abused and possibly break down at a young age).
In any case, if anyone from the tri-state area is interested in two great horses, please let me know and I can put you in touch with my contact at REASON. :) We believe both horses are sound for riding, but they will be fully evaluated by a vet and trainer upon moving to REASON in late August.
That's all my news for now--off to enjoy a nice day with my cats in the A/C! = )
