All Quiet on the Western Front

The cause of all the commotion
The fourth of July, Independence Day, A day of freedom from tyranny... And also the day Aegir was finally accepted into the Peyton Place household. Betty and I already counted him as a son as soon as he was brought home. Hrothgar came around a few days later and they're now the bestest of buddies. But Alarm and Differ just tolerated the newcomer, thinking "he'll leave soon, and we can get back to normal". Now to be fair, Aegir is a big goofball, more so than the other dogs. He thinks he a small 10 lb doggie. He is a busy body with no coordination and and no sense of boundaries... He just wants to play... and can't understand if you don't. He's also not the brightest bulb in the pack. But those are the same things we love about him. I joke that Betty likes her men big strong and dumb! (except me of course... ) But on Friday, The 4th of July, we had a breakthrough moment. I usually wake up before Betty and putter around the house... (I mean do extremely important work) and when Betty wakes I go back in and love on the doggies while we get ready, which normally consists of rubbing Hrothgar's belly and getting kisses from Alarm and Differ. So many kisses that I have to stop them so I can breathe. Well I was surprised by an additional kisser... Aegir, who was not about to be left out, joined right in. At first I was a little worried that a fight would start... with my face right in the middle! But it turned into a who could kiss daddy better contest. Talk about not being able to breathe! Then it happened Aegir kissed Alarm and Differ and they let him... a breakthrough had been made. A thing of beauty and a joy to behold. Later that day Alarm and Aegir even played tug of war with Aegir's new pull toy. It went pretty well until Aegir got a little to rambunctious. A little fight broke out but soon Aegir was kissing Alarm again. Aegir is trying to figure out how to play with Alarm. Aegir gets too rowdy too fast... but just like he did with Hrothgar he'll figure it out. He may not be too bright but he's persistent. He is becoming a great addition to the household. Now we have to work on his bedside manor. He thinks the bed is his... we are still working on that, but he's persistent....

Sounds like these furkids have it made with their family, its always an adjustment bringing in a new kid but it usually works out fine with love and patience. Good luck

Well today, Aegir got under the covers to hid. George had left for work and I was up and in the bathroom. I could hear Alarm and Differ playing and it was Aegir playing "shark" under the covers. Of course, Mommy made over all the babies playing.

Then after my shower, I get out to find Aegir sitting up in the bed, but under the covers. Only his butt and tail were sticking out. I of course was doing the whole "where's Aegir, I don't see him. He is really hiding". The whole time, his tail was thumping and Differ giving her whole Diva act of "whatever" with nose in the air. Finally Alarm grabbed the covers and pulled them off Aegir.

It was like a big magic trick. It was so funny.

I am absolutely ROFLM[posterior]O! The mental picture, while not as amazing as actually being there, is still enough to make my whole day! Thanks so much for painting such a great word picture! There I was feeling a bit sorry for myself because of the ZooToo sign-in snafu, and then I read this and it's "all better!!!!"

I had faith that all would eventually work out. Like any knew kid on the block, takes a little time to make friends. As for the bed, he doesnt think, he KNOWS it will be his eventually. You and Betty may be searching for a new one!

Yeah the first few days were a little stressful, but now he's doing great, and everyone's accepted his exuberance. Aegir just wnts everyone to like him and after awhile it's hard not too. Even if he does steal your toys.

LOL! Aw, George ... has Aegir stolen your toys?!! Awwwww...!

You beat me to it...I was just getting ready to ask the same thing!

All of this love and goofiness prompts the question: Is Marmaduke really a Great Dane, or is he a GCL? (Giant Chocolate Lab!)

Or maybe just "Great Chocolate" as opposed to "Rotten Chocolate" like Aegir!

LOL! Wouldn't you know it, too! Betty being a Chocoholic and all!

Good to hear that all the furkids are getting along better. Sounds like you have quite the crew, now! Bet they're tons of fun! ^_^

I only have 1 little bitsy girl to give kisses in the morning, and she's small enough to fit on my pillow, and leave me a corner to lay my head on. Isn't it grand to be so loved?!

Sounds like Aegir and Hrothgar play very nicely...that's so precious how Aegir will play nicely laying down with Hrothgar. Kelsie and her furcousin, Madison (aka: Mad hatter) have their own idea of playing...they have a 'doggie Indy 500' around the house! They run into each room and zoom in a big circle and also zoom up and down the hall, half the time they are playing tug-of-war with one of the toys as they zoom around. By the time they get down, EVERY throw rug is bunched up and slammed againt the walls in the house!

At least it is just throw rugs in your house. If they get to running, here it is the foot stool, tv trays, dining room chairs and table, trash can in the kitchen, you if in the way. And usually it is Aegir and Hrothgar. So if you get 2 dogs at almost 100 pounds each running at you, you get to the highest point possible.

And Aegir runs like a kid who is so excited about something. You know the run where their arms are being waved wildly. His legs do that and it is so funny. I need to get a video of it.

Aegir really is a great doggie. He just wants to play, and will play with you however you want. It just takes him a little to fiqure it out and then....Blam!!! You're pulled off the couch onto the floor... But with love and tenderness... well, maybe just love.

Guess I should be glad it's only throw rugs, huh?! ^_^ WOW, you've got quite the 'demolition crew' at the Peyton place! The only real issues we have between the 2 houses are shoe stealing, rug bunching, and critter catching (occasionally a live one is brought in the house VIA Madison ) No BIG demolition here! LOL

LOLROFL!!! George, I see that Amy has decided to offer you token support (Ha!).

As for myself, I'm realizing that you've given new and hilarious meaning to the word "putter" (do important stuff, huh?!!!).

Maybe you should pronounce Aegir's name EAGER! because it sounds like that's what he is!

I love the way you and Betty describe his, Alarm and Differ's kissing contests! One thing's for sure: You'll never need to wash your face again! I'm glad there's just of Wiggles and that he has a size-appropriate doggie tongue that's just barely damp!

Thanks for another terrific journal entry!

The kissing is only allowed on Daddy. Mommy does not like it. She is okay with one little kiss per dog, one at a time, but that is all and they know it.

As for Aegir being "Eager" that about right. He is so goofy.

Mommy misses out... I get all the kisses. I do have to stop them so I can breathe, but .....

I didn't need to shower that morning... as long as I didn't mind smelling like doggie breath!

Aegir definitely is Eager... A little too much for his own good sometimes. But it's one of his most endearing qualities. That and his big goofy smile : )

Yes, Aegir has made friends with Alarm and Differ. Of course, Aegir still has to learn that the spinner balls all belong to Alarm and he does not like to see who can get to the ball first when mommy or daddy tosses it.

As for liking my men big, strong and dumb..................well said.

I do have the picture of George getting the million kisses that day. It is on my cell phone and not sure how to down load it to my computer. But when I do........................

As for Aegir, he has figured out how to properly play with Hrothgar who is 12 years old. Hrothgar does not have the strength in his hind legs like Aegir and can only last so long standing up and playing. So Aegir will lay on the floor with Hrothgar. It is so cute because they do this foot slam thing at each other. I have to get video of that.

I am so glad that Daddy decided to admit that I, Mommy (Betty), does know best and that she is always right.

I am sure my zootoo friends will agree.

to preserve the integrity of the internet friendship i have established with george, i will not comment on your comments.
...and george what a lucky guy to be adored by so many doggies!

... and tolerated by so many women!!! Just kidding, George! I know you're in the catbird seat with Betty, no matter how much she'd like us to think you're just a member of the dogpack and she's the boss ... er ... well ... hmmm. Who's the boss? ... hmmm ...

George knows he is loved by all the zootooers also. He has so many "girlfriends" that I should be jealous. But I am not. He is a sweet guy and it is easy for all to be friends with him.
