A Dog's Purpose
4 comments
A ten year old Irish Wolfhound named Belker was dying of cancer. His owners Ron and Lisa were hoping for a miracle. There 6 year old son was so attached to him. When told by the vet that he couldn't do anymore they made the arrangements to have it done at their home.
As they made the arrangements Ron and Lisa thought it would be good to have Shane observe the procedure. They felt as though he might learn something from the experience.
Belker's family surrounded him, petting him for the last time. He slipped away peacefully. The little boy seemed to accept Belker's transition without any difficulty or confusion. They sat together for a while after Belker's death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal's lives are so much shorter than human lives.
Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up,' I know why'.
They turned to him and what came out of his mouth stunned everyone. He said 'People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life...like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right'.
He continued 'Well dogs already know how to do that, so they don't have to stay as long.
