These wise words belonged to William Jennings Bryan, an American politician decades ago. Many ZooTooers have often expressed their sense of helplessness when reading stories of animal abuse on ZooToo news--what could we possibly do to help? Or during the Top 20 shelter tour--it felt like it was up to Fate whether or not our shelter would get the million dollar makeover in the end. Looking back, I do feel that the makeover contest was just one way by which Richard Thompson was trying to EMPOWER us, to show us, through his example, what one person can do, what one community can do to help themselves. He showed us that our Destiny is within reach, it is in OUR hands, yours and mine.

So, I ask all of you to help in creating a new destiny for Bobbi & the Strays. Anyone who has watched their shelter tour video will know just how needy they are. But it's far worse than this....they will be losing their dilapidated facility come December, at which point they will be homeless if they don't raise enough money for another facility soon. If you want to help, please read my journal entry entitled "C'mon fellow Zootooers! Help Bobbi & the Strays stave off homelessness" for more information. No amount is too small when you have the heart to help another shelter in need.

Brenda just wrote a new journal in which she said that Bobbi and the Strays has received $958 to date from Zootooers for the Building Fund.

We just received an update on the total donations received from you wonderful Zootooers. Since the journals started, Bobbi and the Strays has received $745 in checks, cash and online donations! That's just in a week's time.

Some of you sent the nicest notes of support. Bobbi was in tears as she read them. The outpouring of love and support has been really wonderful.

I know I've said this before, but it really is giving us hope that we will be able to meet our deadline.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Thank you so much. I can simply tell how much you love animals - God bless you. I am really not that religious - but i really do mean it. Lead on and help us keep up the good fight. Please know, Mary, that you have already made a difference. It is wonderful to see people caring - and read their heartfelt responses. You are just wonderful!

Thank you so much for your kind words, Fran! I, too, am not religious, but I firmly believe that we can ALL let our actions be guided by a spiritual force, whether or not we believe in a God. That force is our conscience....

So I appeal to all ZooTooers to look inside themselves and ask, "What can I do to help Bobbi & the Strays? What can I do to make this a better world? What kind of example do I want to be for my child /grandchild / nephew / etc etc?" What kind of world do I want to leave them with?"

PLEASE DONATE to Bobbi & the Strays! One act of kindness is the first step to a better world...
And we should be setting an example to all the younger members who are going this site, I have seen several younger NEW members going by their profiles. This is also a learning/teaching experience for them. We need to set an example to those who will be your/our voice for the animals in the future.

Please keep these journals moving along as more zootooers may be here this weekend. This is so VITAL to help Bobbi and the Strays. I URGE you to help, somehow. If you can't send a donation, get the word out. Slip a dollar or two in an envelope and mail it to Bobbi. Do whatever you can. This is a shelter that needs US right now. I watched Bobbi's makeover video and remember her dedication to those animals. Let's NOT LET HER DOWN. We are all here for more than commenting.....get off the couch and DO SOMETHING.............PLEASE.
You sure have a way with words. I agree with you about Richard. That is the purpose of ZooToo after all. And yes, I agree we make our own destinies and that of others like Bobbi's and others in need. So come on everyone! We could help make Bobbi's destiny a good one!

That is so true! I try to live according to one basic rule--always put myself in someone else's shoes and ask myself how I would want them to treat me. That is how I treat others, and it has always served me, and my conscience, exceedingly well.

That is absolutely right. We wouldn't want our animals back out on the street.

Absolutely! How many of us are going to miss that dollar that we have donated to Bobbi & the Strays? A dollar isn't even enough to purchase a coffee, but if everyone donated a dollar to help Bobbi's plight, it WILL be enough to save the lives of many wonderful animals....

PLEASE, GIVE A DOLLAR TO BOBBI & THE STRAYS! A dollar out of your 'coffee' fund may leave your stomach cold, but your heart will be warmed just knowing you made a difference in the life of a needy animal.

Let's do some brainstorming and see if there are other ways to raise more money. Maybe we can convince our shelters, or neighbourhood grocery / pet stores, to put a canister at their front desk soliciting donations for the "Save Bobbi & the Strays from homelessness" funds. Or convince Purina to match our donations (raised through ZooToo) with food, so that Bobbi can use more of their resources towards the purchase of a new building. It would be nice to have a feature news story on ZooToo about this as well. Other ideas???
hymcheng, you have such a wonderful heart; one of compassion, determination, devotion, a pure goodness. You are such a wonderful, caring person; I am very lucky to count you as a friend.
An now Bobbie and all her strays are lucky you have befriended them! You're doing a great thing for a shelter to which you have no personal attachment, and I hope that many Zootooers will be inspired and spurred into action by your example.
I can't help much, but every little bit helps. Zootooers, don't be lulled into thinking your dollar or two won't help! We can support more than one cause or shleter. Every one can make a real difference in the world one step, one dollar, one act of kindness at a time.

Excellent point, Gini. One dollar, one step, one person can change the world. Don't think "It's just a dollar." It's a building block to grow a new home for Bobbi and the Strays.

We live in such a fragile world...any one of us could easily find ourselves in a similar situation as Bobbi & the Strays. This is why it is so important to help others when we are able to, because, someday, when we are NOT able to even help ourselves, then we rely on the kindness and the generosity of others. Kindness begets kindness. I hope all ZooTooers will reach out and help Bobbi & the Strays, knowing that it could be us needing help the next time around....

"A new destiny." What a wonderful picture those words paint. It makes me think of larger cages, daylight, space, and the ability to help more animals in need.

Yes, we desperately need help. Our existing facilities are even smaller than you think. The video that was shot at the Vetport showed two rooms, one yellow, the other blue. The only space that is ours is the small blue room, crammed ceiling to floor with animals and supplies. In a crunch we sometimes rent a cage in the yellow room, but soon that room won't exist either.

We really do appreciate the efforts that are being made on our behalf by so many people.

With everyone pulling together maybe a miracle will happen.

Bobbi and the Strays has a wonderful group of supporters. They are one of three other shelters that I and others from MaxFund "helped" while the contest was going on. They just have a lot of class and integrity. It's hard NOT to help them!

No donation is too small.
