As of today the amount donated as a result of the generosity of Zootooers, their friends and families has climbed to $1,028.

Thanks so much for the update, Susan.... Let's keep this going guys.... WE can do it!

Bobbi and the Strays has received just under $2,000 since the journals began on Zootoo. $1,000 of it was received through www.fundable.com, and the rest from Zootooer's and their friends and families.

I believe that Bobbi and the Strays had about $260,000 in their building fund before this. It took years and years to save up that much, and is way below what is needed. That's why it's so important to raise the rest of the money needed to reach our million dollar goal.

It is very doubtful that we will find a kennel up for sale at a price we can afford, so alterations to install adequate plumbing, drains, heat, cages, runs, etc., will be needed for any other structure, meaning that we will probably need to raise the entire million dollars for the purchase price so that at least part of what's in the building fund now can be used towards renovating the space.

In short - In order to continue their work Bobbi and the Strays needs to raise enough money to purchase (or long-term lease and renovate) a new shelter. You see, the Port Authority is TEARING DOWN THE BUILDING at JFK airport in New York City that houses Bobbi & the Strays’ larger dogs for adoption. Donations are needed in order for Bobbi & the Strays to find a permanent home – and quickly.

If you are even able to post journal entries regarding our plight – and maybe send emails and let friends and family know we really need their help – or even just send supportive comments and good thoughts our way - that would be most greatly appreciated. Any ideas would also be appreciated – we might have exhausted a lot of ours at this point. : - ) Please help spread the word. That is the most important thing that we can ask.

Thanks Brenda for filling Melissa in. We had a terrible storm here Saturday night and I haven't had internet services until today....

Ok I'll check them out and spread the word. There is a girl on here though who is going through a hard time and turned to us for help. She lost her job and is in desperate need of food for her animals so I think we should spread the word about that one too.

That is what this site is all about - informing people of what is going on - and who needs help. I wish that girl all the best. Maybe a shelter that is near her can help her through these rough times.

Just to let everyone know - a study was just realeased this week. It turns out that real-estate across the country is down about 60% of where it was this time last year - price-wise for houses, businesses and even rental apartments. But here is the thing - in NYC (where Queens is located) the price for real-estate is actually up an average of 21% from where it was last year - all real estate even including rental apartments.

It is really tough being in NYC - but NYC really needs an animal rescue group. There is no shelter whatsoever in Queens. The closest is Animal Care and Control in Brooklyn - which is a kill-shelter since it falls under the city and state's Public Health arm.

Plus Bobbi and the Strays has been based here even before its official inception - and virtually all volunteers live in Queens as well. Picking up and moving somewhere else completely is really not an option. And the real-estate is the same in all of NYC and just out of NYC - like Westchester and Long Island....

So we are just going to keep trying. : - ) Again - thank you all for your support!!! We need it - and it is so very much appreciated. Keep up the great work of spreading our story. : - ) All the best to you all!!!

From what I understand, real estate and renting is very high in NYC.

I'm not sure why their rent is so high... I just hope they can get another place before they have to get out of the present one..
