Bobbi and the Strays 1st Annual Walk 4 Paws!
1st ANNUAL WALK 4 PAWS
May 2nd 2009
Juniper Park to Forest Park, Queens
Friends, family, animal lovers, anyone who has ever been touched by an animal,
I need your help! Please support me and my animal shelter in raising money for the first annual Walk 4 Paws! I know we are in hard economic times, but even five dollars helps and is greatly appreciated! Any donation you give goes directly to saving the animals like my Lucky Charm and Horatio who were rescued by Bobbi and the Strays. Horatio was slated to be euthanized at the city shelter and Lucky was tied up in front of a vets office. There are thousands more in NYC that need our help!
As a shelter manager I see firsthand how much suffering there is when it comes to homeless animals. Bobbi and the Strays has been making a difference in hundred's of animals lives every year. We don't disciminate on age, breed, health etc. We believe every animal deserves a chance. We will take in an animal that needs an expensive surgery, we will take in animals that have been abused and need rehabiliation. We do whatever we can to prepare them for their new lives. All of our animals our spayed/neutered, vaccinated, tested and microchipped. We screen all applicants and do follow ups to make sure our animals are safe and loved in their new homes.
At Bobbi and the Strays we manage to do a lot with very little right now. Our shelter is a small, delapidated building with tiny cement cages stacked on top of each other. There is no quarantine area, no play area, no office, no meet and greet room- no indoor space for any kind of activity with the animals or for the volunteers. We do not even have storage closets. Supplies are stacked on top of cages. Our location is remote and hard for adopters and volunteers to get to. Despite these challenges our animals get walked 4 times a day plus play time in a small cement pen outside. Our volunteers take the animals off site for weekly trips to the hiking trails and beaches. Most of our dogs also attend obedience classes off site once a week where many earn their CGC title from the AKC before adoption.
We hope to raise enough money to be able to secure a large full service shelter building that will serve not as a traditonal shelter but as an urban sanctuary that will house the animals in comfy, spacious holding areas and where they will receive training, socialization, recreational play time with other animals and in structured activities such as agility, top vet care onsite and have the opportunity to be seen by many more potential adopters. This facility will enable us to save more animals by creating an environment where the animals will flourish and the community will want to take part in. Please help us make our dream come true for the animals.
Thank you for donating and please spread the word. I hope to see you at the walk!
