Dylan - Bob, not Thomas - Question

I always get good suggestions from people here so, why not...

I recently came into possession of about 20 Bob Dylan records from the 1960s to the early 1980s. Records, not CDs, the original vinyl stuff. Yes, there's a copy of Blonde on Blonde (with pictures of the band in the inside cover, not the women), no copy of Blood on the Tracks (but I had a very used one before).

I have never been a big Dylan fan but I couldn't turn down rescuing vinyl from a friend who no longer had a record player or an interest in holding onto the LPs.

So, my question is, how do I go about introducing myself to the Bob in a way that won't frustrate me? As with all artists, some albums are better than others. Do I start from the beginning and play through? Listen to the live and greatest hits albums first and then explore?

What's the best Bob album from this time period to start with?

I like Bob Dylan, and I would suggest Hwy 61 revisted. I love that album and can listen to it at any time.

I also would suggest to listen to songs and if you dont like them, then skip them. You don't have to like every song by ethe artist to enjoy the artist. you know? People tell me then I am not a "true fan" but I just think I am a big girl that can likes and dislikes. etc.

I'll put it on. It's a start. As to skipping tracks, don't you think the artist is trying to tell a story with the song order and skipping around ruins whatever they are trying to convey? I don't know about that, I just heard a producer or singer say something along those lines.

I am not a huge music fan. I use music for two purposes. Distraction while driving/walking long distances or to work out.

So I don't know/care about what the artist is trying protray. I personally, don't get "messages" from music either. I like the tune, the beats, the guitar, the singing style, or I skip. Hahaha. Sometimes people tell me they were "touched" by music or something, which can happen, but I think those peopel are looking for meaning. I look for meaning in books.

My best friend from high school was a big Bob Dylan fan. If he were on Zootoo, he could certainly help you. As for me, I never ever liked anything he did. I would suggest you sell them on Ebay or put them in th closet. Personally I think there is a lot better music to listen to. No offense intended, but I never understood what people saw (or heard) in Dylan. Has to be me, because he did have a substantial following.

I had a number of friends who were big Dylan fans. Up to this point I had 2 or 3 other Dylan records that were given to me and I never listened to. There is a lot more to listen to, yes. As to ebay, I don't think the records are of sufficient quality to sell them so, may as well check them out and see what, if anything, I've been missing.
