Dog Park

We took Kipper to the dog park for the first time today. We didn't want to take him there until after we had him neutered. Which we had just done shortly after his birthday. He was so excited when he saw the other dogs and began lunging at a couple of the larger dogs. He hasn't done well at home with being outside off leash or walking nicely on leash and the area we were in was an off leash area, but we were unsure of how his reaction would be if he was off leash and so we kept him on leash for about the first 10-15 mins. He still lunged at another dog that was his age and closer to his size at first, but then he cooled down after a few mins. If he got too aggressive with the other dog, she wouldn't respond to him anymore and would just go off on her own for a few minutes. Then they would try to play together again. Once he calmed down we decided to take off the leash and he did quite well without it. After that he behaved very well with the other dogs that arrived and he would greet them more appropriately and they would all run around or walk around in one big pack. After we had been there about 20 mins. or so, he would even come to us when called most of the time and we could tell when he was ready to go home. He came to us when we called him and kept walking with us, basically acknowledging the presence of the other dogs by looking back once or twice, but kept walking until he got to the water bowl, to stop and take a drink first. All of the other people and dogs past him up and he stayed with us, not seeming to care that they left. But, man did he get dirty. On the ground were wood chips and under that and in part of the grassy area, there is a dark sand like dirt, charchoal in color, that Kipper got into his white coat. Then he got himself wet over by the fountain and turned all of that black dirt into mud. He really surprised us with how well behaved he was with the other dogs and how well he listened to us when we were there. Needless to say he was given a bath tonight, 2nd night of getting one in a row, but boy did he have fun!

I think dog parks are great to socialize them at.Chanci was so afraid at first. But now she gets right out there and plays and runs. She also let's a male dog know if he's getting too close. She'll growl then walk away.I think they're wonderful.Keep enjoying the dog park!God Bless!!!!!!!!!
