Behind Every Successful Shelter Volunteer there’s a ……

….good spouse? Maybe. In my case it’s true. I have really been delinquent with my volunteering at LHS. I haven’t been up there in quite a while. I do feel guilty about it, but I have been busy with other commitments. Truth be told there have been occasions when I could have snuck up there, but I made excuses like “Ah, it’s pretty darn cold today.” “I really should get home and walk my pups” “I’m tired”. I didn’t even have to look in my list of excuses. They all just immediately came to mind without any effort at all. Oh yeah, how about this one? This is the one I was trying this morning. “I had to do ski patrol last night and got in late so I’ll be tired after work and really shouldn’t go.” That’s a really lame one since I have gone up on Thursday’s in the past after patrolling on Wednesday. Okay, okay. They all are lame.

Meanwhile back at the ranch. I mean beginning. Wifey this morning says “Are you going to LHS tonight?” Now as recently as yesterday it was “How about if we go up to LHS on Thursday?” This morning “we” mysteriously changes to “you”. Hmm. It gets better. She says “Maybe you should just go tonight. You get out of work before me and I really should get home to take care of our pups.” I think she must have found my excuses list. Remind me later to find a better hiding spot. So I say “I don’t know if I feel like going tonight.” Which really is Antonuch’s (variant of Anthony’s) way of saying “I ain’t going and don’t tell me ain’t ain’t in the dictionary because it was added in our lifetime!” She is not to be outdone and says, “Well why don’t you bring your stuff in case you decide that you want to go?” Here we are again back to that “you” stuff. So I relent and put my “stuff” in the care.

What happens after I get to work is that I’m like “Yeah, I do want to go tonight. I miss the place. There are a few buds there that I haven’t seen in a while that I would like to get out. There’s a few newbies I want to meet. Yeah. I really want to go.” and I do. That’s how I came up with the snappy title for this journal entry.

Finally, after a long hiatus, two entries in the entertainment category. Maybe the increase in day light has helped out.

You do ski patrol? I thought that was just hte name of a cheesy 80's movie :)
The weather is a huge deterrent to my dog volunteering. When it's cold, I hate going outside.

It's also the name of a cheesy TruTV show that aired the beginning of this winter. It was filmed last year at Crystal Mountain which I believe is in Washington and at Blue Mountain in Pa. which is where I patrol. I was actually in one of the episodes for about 2 minutes. Hey, I thought I was supposed to get 15 minutes of fame, not two minutes!
