The amazing 14.1 hand pony that beat many fancy bred, talented horses in the sport of three day eventing was just put down due to a serious injury that he received while in the pasture. Sad and trajic not just for him but for any horse, it reminds us horse owners how fragile these animals are. No matter how much the horse is protected, or how much we try to keep them from being harmed, horses are fragile and suseptible to injury. It really makes me, as a horse owner, worry when I see my horses innocently playing in a pasture.

I do not understand why they are immediately put down.... I know they probably won't be able to race/compete again but is it possible for them to recover at all from common injuries like broken bones?

What a tragedy...is everything being done to protect and assess horses in eventing and other competitions.
