The Midwest Horse Welfare Foundation is a nonprofit charity dedicated to helping equines in need. MHWF takes in horses (and donkeys/mules) from anywhere in the United States and helps find them good homes. MHWF also works with local law enforcement, as well as law enforcement from around the whole state as well as surrounding states, taking in many rescue cases and working to rehabilitate and rehome them. MHWF also takes in horses from people who need a place for their horse to go and have run out of options. MHWF also keeps track of every single equine placed into an adoptive home, requiring adopters to provide vet checks yearly. Every year MHWF takes in approximately 100 equines directly to our facility, and helps many, many more out there through networking and other counseling. With the state of the economy the way it is, horses are suffering the most, being the hardest animals of all to place into new homes and the cost of their care skyrocketing. Please help MHWF win this much needed grant to continue their work for all of the equines out there who so desperately need their help.

The Midwest Horse Welfare Foundation (MHWF) is currently in 7th place in the Nation, and they very much need funds. MHWF is run strictly by volunteers, there is not one single paid staff member. MHWF does not own any property or buildings, the people who volunteer their time and their lives to saving these animals offer up their own personal property to house all of these horses and care for them. MHWF does not have any type of funding whatsoever, such as municipal contracts or anything like that. They run strictly on fundraising and donations. Horses are extremely expensive to care for and it is a lot of back-breaking work as well. They have helped so many animals from their area and from surrounding states as well. I know that they have helped in many cases that involved more than just horses, and I do not mean to say "just horses", as they are just as important as every other creature. Many people do not realize that there is such a huge overpopulation of horses and there are as many problems with horses as there are with cats and dogs. Not as many people can house a horse and this is very hard work. One of the directors of this program used to work in dog and cat rescue for years until dedicating her time to the horses now because there was such a lack of people out there helping horses.
