Killer at Large

An ex-con who served time for murder and now faces kidnapping and attempted murder charges has escaped from jail, fleeing in his underwear on a cold night, authorities said. He remained at large Friday.

Jonathan J. Good, 36, is considered dangerous, the Mecosta County sheriff's office said.

He got out through a skylight and onto a roof late Wednesday. He was last seen wearing white boxer shorts, a white T-shirt and rubber shoes, and nighttime temperatures in the area of northern Michigan have been in the 30s.

He may have obtained clothing and cut his hair, Sheriff's Detective Sgt. Casey Nemeth said in a statement Thursday evening.

Police were checking to see if he broke into an empty home or apartment in the campus town, home of Ferris State University, during the Thanksgiving break.

State records show Good got out of Michigan's prison system after serving sentences for second-degree murder and armed robbery for crimes committed in 1988.

In Mecosta County, he is suspected of being the ringleader of a group of teenage thieves implicated in a string of burglaries, a home invasion and a shooting, according to the Pioneer newspaper.
