Keeping LHS Clean (I stole the title)
Late at night, when I am alone in the office at LHS, I like to check my e-mail and sometimes let myself out to do a load of laundry to help out, to sort of pay for my food and whatnot. I can load the washer and get that going and even get it dried. Folding is not my strong point. I guess you can figure out why.
Anyway, so Andy sent an e-mail to a bunch of us asking that we ChipIn to buy a lot of laundry detergent for the shelter. Apparently Andy is collecting the money and will be going on a laundry shopping spree in a week and a half. (Boy, he knows how to live. Here's a clue loser - go out on the town once in a while and stop showing up at the shelter every freakin' day. We love you but we don't need to see you that often. I bet we see you more often than your wife does.)
What a great idea.
Some of the animals around here are not as well mannered as I am. They had people who didn't listen to them and... I don't know what more. As a result, towels and blankets get dirty on a regular basis and need to be cleaned.
I'm certain other shelters are already doing this but it helps to have a few people who will lead such efforts. He previously collected money for cat litter and was able to buy 2500 pounds of litter thanks to a bunch of people giving small donations and a local store selling the stuff to us at cost. As an aside, I don't know what the big deal is about that stuff. I go out, I come in. No big deal. These cats need special places to do their business. I call that special place "outside".
I'm all over the place tonight. It's sort of loud tonight at LHS so I'm getting distracted.
The point of this journal is to say that there is a lot going on at shelters - all shelters - beyond walking dogs, socializing cats, and, generally speaking, handling animals. There is all the work that goes on behind this - scrubbing the floors, shuffling paper, washing dishes, and cleaning bedding for the animals.
The costs associated with keeping shelters clean are... I don't know what they are but it does cost. A lot probably. And volunteers are always donating sooo much to keep us clean. With an effort like the one my pet is leading, we are being, I hope, a little more efficient with their donated funds.
Thanks to everyone who is donating. I love having a clean bed and, a quick survey of my friends here shows 100% approval of clean bedding. Sounds like North Korean election results, I realize, but it is a hard subject to argue with.
If you want to help this cause, talk with Brian, Allison, Aurora, or Andy. They're always happy to take your money. Apparently the boy wonder also set up a page on ChipIn.com - an online tool for giving that works with our PayPal account. The page is, with no "www" in front of it:
lhsvolunteers.chipin.com/liberty-humane-volunteers
I know URLs don't always show up properly on Zootoo so send me a note if the above link doesn't show up and you want to see how things are progressing.

I know I shouldn't be, but I am always amazed at how articulate and observant you are. You are very well spoken for a Pit that doesn't bark.
Um. If I get you your own personalized bag of bully sticks and chance of you coming to do the laundry at my place? I won't even ask you to fold.
