Contest Almost Over!!

In many ways, I am saddened by the fact that the shelter makeover contest will end soon. It has been a wonderful experience for our entire community that we serve (3 central PA counties)! The website and contest have served to bring animal lovers together for a common cause, e.g. a shelter makeover which we need so badly. We are so crowded with animals and soon the spring kittens will start to be dropped off.
I am proud to be associated with such a well run organization. The Executive Director, an attorney, stepped aside from a high paying job to follow her passion and the results after one year show it all. I am a board member and we are a policy making and fundraising board. We let the Executive Director and staff run the day-to-day functions.
We refuse to euthanize for space! We don't turn animals away - although when a surrender is being considered, the staff do try to determine whether there is something we can help with to avaiod the surrender. It could be medical care, food, etc.
We take in up to 10,000 animals each year. Currently we have 300 cats and 200 dogs - 90% of which are pit bulls. We have special education programs about pit bulls since they have such a bad and unjustified wrap!
Many of us have worked hundred of hours to earn the shelter makeover. We hope, pray and believe that this prize is within the reach of our community!! Thousands of people have put so much effort into this. I want to thank all of the member os our community for what they have done to help the animals and to ensure our continued existence!!
Thanks to ZooToo for their dedicated service and concept on behalkf of those who cannot speak (bark or meow??) for themselves.
