"Pit Bull"

They're talking about Pit Bulls on the news again. I have an issue with laws being instated grouping dogs into a group called "pit bulls" when there are various breeds which fall into the category. It's not that Pit Pulls is ONE kind of dog but a generic name that covers multiple breeds. If anyone is reading this and I'm wrong, please correct me.

But, I have issue with these blanket laws that are created that claim "Pit Bulls" are a unique breed that needs to be controlled. This doesn't make any sense to me on how the strength of these dogs is reason to outlaw them - seems like we need more detail in these regulations than a blanket assumption on various breeds. I'm a strong believer that dogs (AND HUMANS) are in large part a product of their environment. Assuming all dogs are vicious because their breed is known to be aggressive (most likely because of training) is more ignorant than informed. Correct me if I'm mis-informed, please.

I totally agree with you, it is very unfortunate that breed specific laws are coming into effect! In my opinion, it's not the nature of these dogs, but rather the horrible training that they recieve as youngsters (not stopping, or even promoting aggression) that make them aggressive, for every violent dog that can be defined as a 'pit bull', there are probably 3 or more that aren't.
Stop blaming the dogs, and start blaming the irresponsible owners who think that they can just lock a dog in their apartment with little stimulation or socialization and expect it to grown up to be well balanced and friendly.
