Why is it so unusual!?

My cat Stink really is the best part of my life. He does everything and goes everywhere with me. What I don't understand is why that is so strange? He loves the car- road trips to grandma's are his favorite!

Not only do people look at me funny but they always say something similar to one another about how cats aren't supposed to be that way and how did I get him the way he is.

My response is simple-- Just like there is no such thing as a bad dog, and only bad owners- a cat is a reflection of its owner too. He has gone in the car with me since I first got him back and forth to college, he sits because I have taught him to, comes when called because he loves me and knows its going to be a good experience of petting and spoiling.

Why doesn't he leave the yard? Because he was taught not to and therefor has no desire to- he gets all the stimulation he needs and is happy just to hang out around us while we sit on the patio.

Anyone else have the same or different opinions? I would love to hear them! Cats and dogs should be created equal!

Cats in cars? I have a friend in the UK who takes his cat to flea market sales with him every week. The cat wears a harness in case she has to get down to facilitate, but for the most part, he carries her. She rides in the car without restraint, sometimes on the dashboard, sometimes draped langorously over the back seat.

He was stopped by a cop once who said 'sir, you know you have a cat loose in your car?' He said 'yes, I do'. If it was me, I would have acted all surprised. Cat? What cat? There's a cat in my car? OMG? What ever am I going to do? About the time the cop was ready to taze me, I would have fessed up and said of course I know I have a cat in the car.

But he's British. They don't have the same irony gene as we on this side of the pond.

I don't know a lot about cats since I've only had dogs living with me, but you are right; it's all about the relationship you have with them. Any animal can be mean or badly behaved. It's all about how you treat them. Your cat is lucky to have you because you obviously love him dearly.
