we missed you, mom.....

Well, I had my first day at work today and..... I like it. It'll even be better when I really know what I'm doing. :-) My coworkers are really nice; the building is beautiful. I'm really tired tonight, but I think it's that "first day on the job" syndrome.

My guinea pigs had their first day at home alone and.... they DIDN'T like it. They are not used to being home alone. I had my husband give them a snack when he came home for lunch, but when I got home around 4:30, I discovered pigloos were flipped, dishes knocked over and there were five screaming cavies demanding I pay attention to them IMMEDIATELY.

I shook out their fleece, gave them pellets and offered them snacks. I even made sure I gave each of them some personal attention.

Have they forgiven me? I don't think so.... they're all sulking in their cages right now.....

Hell hath no fury! I've often thought I should get a Nanny Cam to watch the birds while I'm at work-----might be instructive to watch what really goes on with those pigaloos, eh?

I thought about you yesterday & was wondering how it was going. Glad you like the job. I know it must be a huge adjustment for the babies & they may pout for a while but I'm sure they'll forgive you...eventually! ;-)

I hope they do. My schedule is Monday, Friday and Saturday so I'm guessing that Friday will be almost like starting over again. They also have us scheduled for an orientation in the afternoon, so it won't be a full day of training until Saturday. People dress up very nice there. They told us that we can wear jeans on Saturday. I have three drawers filled with jeans since that's what we wore at my last job. I'm glad I'll have that choice. The location of the place is situated around a large network of expressways. I realized I was going way out of my way to get there but couldn't figure out have to get around the expressways. One of my coworkers told me a short cut. I tried it yesterday and it cuts off about 2 miles from my drive. This job is a lot closer for me and with one less day, I'll have about 75 miles a week less to drive.

they will get over it and just explain to them that if you work they get more treats

Thanks, Devil Dawg....I'm glad, too. I have a lot to learn, The person who is training us said there's so much, they have procedures online because there's so much to remember.

You're extremely smart, you'll be just fine. You're just being hard on yourself right now and I do understand that.....I wanted to learn everything yesterday too !!!

Oooh... You made this sound so sad :( They will probably feel jilted for awhile....
Their way of getting back at you i spose is by tipping over their pigloos and food bowls....

I've never seen them act like that. They didn't even eat their pellets. They usually eat every bite.

Probably because they were so upset... I am sure that they will adjust, but they are so use to you being there with them...

It is so hard on pets when their families are away at work. But you know what--there's nothing like coming home at night and getting a big genuine greeting form the furkids. :) I'm glad your having a good experience at your new job. You deserve the best.

Am so glad you like your new job. I think our animals have a harder time with change than we do. I am sure they will adjust and get back to normal.

I hope they adjust. I feel sorry for them. I think they've trained me too well. I should only feed them twice a day, anyway......

If the guinea piggies wouldn't have done what they did, wouldn't you be wondering why they didn't? HA. You should make a video: "Guinea Pigs Gone Wild".

I actually expected them to sleep. When we go for an overnight trip, we load up the cages with food and when we get back, the food is gone and they are asleep. We have them on Carefresh while we're gone. I think the difference is that I had them on fleece and no one shook it out while I was at work. Keep in mind when I was working second shift, no one was shaking it out in the evening until I got home and did it. I think they're ticked off because I changed their routine.

I'm sorry, but that's funny! Nothing like throwing a temper tantrum. The dogs did that to us yesterday when we went to the beach. Their beds were rearranged (to the middle of the floor), toys were all over the living room, and the pillows were off the sofa. Glad to hear that you like your new job. And, you're right. As you get more comfortable with the job, it will be much better.

I can just imagine that. We can't even have food or drinks in the office..... I'd have to hide them under my desk.... ha ha

Had to laugh reading about flipped pigloos and all! They were probably thinking "wheres mom, usually she comes as soon as we start wheeking!" Glad to hear your first day was nice. Have a great rest of the week, hope the piggies aren't mad at you. :)

My husband said Curly Fry, in particular, looked really ticked off. She sort of sneered at him. I'm going to try and give them a lot of veggies when I leave in the morning. Hopefully, that will fill them up and they'll sleep all day and start "working" afternoons when I get home. :-)

They should soon adjust. My cats are so used to the routine that anytime a change comes they wonder whats up. Our furfriends are very smart, they know when its time to eat, and when they want attention. I hope the veggie-fill up works! :)

Kath, I know what you are going through! It is hard to get back into the swing of things! Not just for you but, for the babies too! Kittles seemed to be okay but, for a couple of days did a little sulking himself. Now, he is back into the routine and loving sleeping on our nice fleece blanketed bed all day! lol

Glad to hear you went back to work. I have no doubt that you will be doing things like they were second nature in no time!

Thanks, Cathy, I am so grateful to have found a job.... it's the exact number of hours I was working, and even though the pay is less, it's closer to my home and one less day. I think I'll really like it once I get used to it. It's huge. I feel like I'm in a convention center. I woke up really early today and my herd was waiting. I think I'm already changing my second shift "time clock" to mornings.... My husband said the guinea pigs were all asleep when he got home for lunch. It was later in the afternoon that the troops must have gotten restless. :-) I hope your transition back to work has been working out well for you. It sounds like the residents really love you, so I'm sure that makes it a pleasure to go to work.
