The horses who are the best taken care of get hurt the most---why?

So, as an equestrian, I think everyone could argue that the harder you try to keep you horse out of trouble or looking good, the harder it is. How many of you have a pasture pony that you do nothing to and looks PERFECT, yet if you were to turn your show horse out in a pasture he would immediately look like a mouse? Or why is that horses always get injured right before a competition? I realize their work "increases", but no really. Training is just as intense during the prep work, yet right before something really big, say, the Olympics, the horse gets injured? Look at the Olympic team. You always hear people who are short listed and then the horse gets an absess, has some random bump on his leg, or oops, he slid in the pasture. What are the odds? Or how about my friend (not american)who was preparing for the Olympics and had two horses qualified. 3 months before it and both needed surgery! I think we call this Murpheys Law!

Lol!! Isn't that the truth!!! The more I try to keep my kids safe the more they seem to get injured. Especially my TB geld. What a big kid he is!! If I could pad his stall I would. Even my farrier says "Don't even take him out of the stall without boots/wraps on!" I wouldn't even THINK of putting him on pasture, I could just imagine! He has everything possible to keep him safe and it's ALWAYS something. The people that know and have known him call him 'BooBoo'.

Isnt that the truth!!! The same could be said with all aspects of life, so unfair. It is a shame though, that athletes especially riders who have not only themselves but their horse to worry about have this problem. When you start to not care, or when it becomes unimportant thats when everything falls into place. Frustrating! anyway.... I hope that your horses remain healthy and happy...

Somtimes its Paranoia and other times its a Coincidence. Some people just over do it. There was a lady at a barn I boarded at that her horse got a tiny cut on his leg and she wrapped everyday and kept him a stall all day. Vet told her not to, we told her not to but she did and the horse ended up being lamefor like a month.

But with most show horses, they have a show horse mentality which causes them to be more excited/ hyper/ crazy. I think there is a better word for that. I mean think about, a horse cannot be 100% sane if he is gonna go out and jump a 5 foot fence and then land in two+ feet of water and a few strides later do another huge fence. Am I right?
