Stop Digging!

How do you stop a dog from digging? He knows it's not a good thing. I'd pointed it out before to him saying "Bad Dog! Bad Dog!" as I filled in the hole. He seemed to get it since he stopped for awhile. But I've been in and out a lot lately and he's been digging again when I'm not home, so I can't correct him when he's in the act. Someone suggested putting something he doesn't like around the hole but he'll just go to a new spot. He's got the whole back yard after all. If you see this and you know something, give me a clue.
