Oh that Smokey

Smokey woke me up early this morning, seemed like he was trying to tell me something. He usually wakes me up at daybreak by running across my body (and not lightly, either). This time he hopped on my chest and got in my face and meowed until I got up. I turned out that the bad weather and heavy rain was doing its usual thing on Amy, and she was having a nervous spell, pacing and trying to hide under things. I had to get up and give her meds to calm her down (I ended up having to give her several light doses until she calmed down, I never know how much it will take because it depends on weather factors that I cannot detect).

This cat has really taken us all under his wing. He spends more and more time in my lap now. He eats his food with his paws (which I never saw a cat do before!). He uses his claws to pick one morsel at a time out of his food bowl and eat it.

And he plays with his water! I put an automatic waterer downstairs in the same room as his litter box, and he spends a lot of time when he's bored sitting in front of the waterer and splashing the water out with his paws and watching the water run slowly down toward the nearby drain in the floor. He used to try to tip it over so the water would all run out at once and rush to the drain, but I secured it upright so he couldn't do that.

Crazy cat. I don't know what's so exciting about watching water slowly run downhill, but he seems to have a fascination with all things water (even to the point of trying to get in the shower with me!). What a treat!
