My Agility Lesson

I went for a private agility lesson yesterday to get a different perspective and really had a good time. I adore my instructor(s) and would not be where I am today without them. However, it's always good to learn more and get a different viewpoint on what you are doing and what you need to work on. Well, as suspected, and what I know and have heard, it's me.

This is my first competitive agility dog - Guinnie - and once again I've ended up with a green dog and I am the green trainer. I went through the same with my horse. I have to admit, this is easier!

The sport is fabulous. If you haven't tried it, you are missing out on some great fun!

All it takes is an "AH-HA" moment to change everything. There comes a day when everything clicks and it's like driving a sports car at full speed.

You and Guinnie are an awesome team and will only get better. I agree, it's always good to get more opinions. It's almost always the handler, the dogs just do what they do naturally and we just get in the way.

Thanks, Jackie. She's such a good girl. I love working with her and am having a blast! You should brag, though. Look what you have accomplished.

Funny you should mention horses... I have sometimes said that agility training is not unlike someone who has never ridden before being handed a horse that is green-broke and saying "now train it to be a show jumper" - i.e., you and the dog are BOTH learning something totally new. Ah, our first agility dogs... they put up with so many mistakes.

On the plus side your first agility dog tends to listen first (as opposed to, say, hunt for rats). Trade you! ;-)

Great point, but, sorry, no trade. My husband would kill me! <g>
