Mia's a bully

She is really trying to dethrone the bulldog from his Alpha position. It's not working, he's a stubborn old man.

I had that happen to my dog Shelby 4 yrs ago but at the time I didn't realize what was going on. I had a 4 yr old Shepherd/ Bassett mix Shelby ( she the one in the photo with me) and a 2 yr Pit/Dobie mix Suki, I got up to go to work and let Suki out of the crate and she went right for and attacked Shelby. She grabbed her by the throat and started swinging her like a rag doll down the hall. I'm screaming and trying to break it up, and she would let go , then grab Shelby again. Shelby got her licks in, but Suki was so much bigger and stronger. When it finally ended Shelby was half dead, and Suki had a couple scrapes. I worked at the shelter and rushed her to there but Shelby was so far gone they had to put her down. I cried all the way home and didn't understand what made Suki turn on her like that. I was so afraid that Suki would do it again, that I took her to the shelter and had her put down. For the longest time I replayed it in my head of what set her off. Shelby & Suki were best friends, where you saw one you saw the other. I had never seen a dog as laid back as Suki. She loved every animal we had. We would say that she was Mother Teresa reincarnated. Then I read an article about dogs around the age of 2 trying to assert themselves to become the Alpha dog. That was the only thing I could think of that happened. Which makes me feel even worse that I had Suki put down too. You are the first person I have ever told in the 4yrs it happened. I miss Shelby terribly she was one very special dog. I trade all my animals in to have Shelby back.

That's horribly sad. It's very strange how some dogs snap like that. I dont think any of my dogs would ever do that to each other but i guess you didnt either.
