Guarding the yard together
I am amazed every day at how well Krista gets along with Perdita, my sometimes cranky, always dominant dobie mix. The thing is that the only females that Perdita consistently has not gotten along with are the two that are permanent residents, Akane and Suzuka! I think part of the variable in most of these cases is that new foster dogs are willing to be bottom of the pecking order (most of the time; Stinger was a notable example in how he and Miki interacted), so Perdy can establish her dominance, and the new foster kid is happy and thrilled to have someone else take charge. Perdy tolerates all manner of shenanigans from these guys though like Stinger's "adorable" habit of grabbing her by the collar and trying to drag her around the yard, Sonny's barking at her to demand play, and Krista's jumping up in her face and grabbing ears and skin. Heck, Perdy even allowed Luna, the little white pit puppy in some of the photos to chew her tail! That I suspect was "puppy pass" territory though.
Perdita is very forceful with new dogs though, and she and my sister's dog, Atlas, still haven't settled into a real relationship when he visits. However, seeing that Perdy can like other dogs so frequently solidifies my belief that the issues with Suzuka and Akane are more on their side than hers. Curse me for liking feisty little herding breeds!
