Shelter statistics from across the nation...

I'm trying to gather information from shelters in Illinois, on their intake, adoption, and euthanasia rates for dogs and cats. Eventually we hope to have all the info published online at: http://www.naiashelterproject.org
Already much information has been compiled for California, Michigan, and several other states. We hope to be able to track trends and see what works as far as legislation and shelter policies go.
Sadly, a lot of shelters don't want to release this information. I can understand their concerns, but how can we as a society change and improve unless we know where we are starting from?
In Illinois, I have a list of 5 pages (small type) of shelters, and I'm contacting each one via email requesting their data. It is an overwhelming job-- I can't believe how many shelters there are in my state! If you'd like to help with this enormous, eye-opening project, check out the website and contact the shelter project director.
