My Adopted Weimaraners
2 comments
I fell in love with this breed. My daughter had gotten a Weim and named her Roxy. I felt like she was my first grandchild! I then wanted to help this breed when I saw that so many were abandoned because people who had gotten them didn't understand what a Weimaraner's needs were. These dogs need to be a part of the family. SO many people do not have the time required to have a Weimaraner. So I adopted my first one, Cleopatra, from Heartland Weimaraner Rescue in Kansas City. She was 3 months old, and would have gone to a research lab had Heartland not rescued her. I loved her the moment I saw her and flew her home with me. The pilot on a US Air flight, on 9-11-2003, let her sit on my lap all the way...and she slept on me. What a memory! She is now going on 5, May 21st.
My second adoption was Sherlock, from Wolf Creek Weimaraner Rescue in Tennessee...now this is a story too....he was transported by the Weimaraner Rescue Railroad..not really a railroad, but certain special individuals who are dedicated to helping weims reach their forever home...it makes me cry when I think of this....that we all have a purpose in our lives, no matter how big or small...if it were not for these caring individuals giving their time, this adoption would not have happened...where there is a will there is a way! He was transported car to car...each driver taking him about 1- 3 hours by car to the next point....I met him in Baltimore at a mall parking lot....and he was starving...he sniffed out the fried chicken bag under the seat of my car, and couldn't wait to get into it....I did bring dry dog food along too. I drove him to our home and that was in December of 2004. He had a tail that looked like a lightning bolt, someone had broken it and not docked it. I had it docked and he is a beautiful 100 lb. male, who is very loving. I love these 2, they are like children to me and don't know what I would do without them. They make me happy every day....

I was part of the Delaware Valley Weim Rescue until I moved back to Missouri. Now I take care of my 90 year old father and my 2 weimaraners...I may get involved again out here in Missouri. I do have some time, but not too much.
