Mr Tree Kitty flew out of the tree!
Finally, the fire department came and positioned a couple of firemen under the branch with a big net. They pointed their high-powered water hose at Mr. Tree Kitty, who by now was as far up the tree as he could possibly get, and blew him out of the tree with a gust of water from the hose!
They caught him, wrapped him in towels, and an animal control officer took him away since no one claimed him as a pet.
Follow up with animal control was shocking! They said Mr Tree Kitty was a mean, wild feral and they were going to put him to sleep!!
One friend wrote a letter to the mayor, who got in touch with animal control. Animal control doesn't normally adopt out ferals but under the circumstances, they were willing to microchip him, neuter him, and release him to someone who knew how to handle feral cats.
So my friends got in touch with ME! I picked him up at the shelter, put a towel over the carrier, and brought him home to quarantine him in the back bathroom. He was hissing and spitting but the towel helped calm him down.
Turns out Mr Tree Kitty wasn't feral at all! He was just so sick and frightened. My house felt immediately different from the yowling shelter, and my voice was much more gentle than animal control. He knew he was safe with me.
He curled up on a warm towel for a day or two, he didn't want to eat. He was as thin as I've ever seen. But on healthy soft food and a bowl of clean water, he quickly recovered. I also added special kitty supplements to help him get his strength back.
It's been a month and he is now recovered, re-socialized, and ready to move into his new home with the two ladies who spotted him in the tree. They went to so much work to find a way to get him down, they just can't wait to have their little guy safely home with them :-)
I love animal rescue!
