Just because the shelter says this guinea pig bites...don't beleive them til you have held the guinea pig yourself!
Anyway I just wanted to say to those who are considering adopting guinea pigs, if the person at the shelter helping you, says they were given up because they bit, or that they have bitten potential adopters, dont let that put you off. I have 2 guinea pigs from shelters, and with both of them, I was informed they were basically evil little biting monsters.
I held both of them, and visited with them before I took them home, as this is required. Even if they had bitten I would have taken them home, because I dont need to hold them to enjoy their company. Anyway they infact did not bite me, and they have yet to bite me at home.
Makes me wonder, what were people doing to them before that caused them to bite??? Had they just eaten something yummy and there was a food smell on their hands? Were they to rough? To quick to pet them?
So give the little animal a chance, even if the shelter staff looks scared to get the animal out of the cage to visit with you...lol. You may be pleasantly surprised to find a really gentle animal, and the animal will be pleasantly surprised to find a really gentle human for a change!
