I use to breed pure bread dogs and loved them dearly, but within the last 5 years, I have become a true believer in adopting Shelter animals. 1st came Dickens. He was a 2 month old kitten that was brought to the shelter with a prolapsed rectum because of having so many perasites. They were going to put him to sleep, but there was something about him that won me over. My husband and I fostered him for over a month. We had to push his rectum back in every time he had a bowel movement. We even brought him to our son's wedding, not having anyone to take care of him. Eventually his muscle control got better and he was able to have a regular bowel movement. By then I was hooked and couldn't give him up, so we adopted him. He was a great companion for many years, but unfortunately was hit by car and died a few years back. I still miss him.
