This is my pound puppy. She came into our lives when we lost our beloved bear dog. After bears sudden passing and a month of denying wanting another lab, we decided to check out the Humane Society on Grayson Road. On the first week, we didn't see any yellow labs at all. We had decided if we were to adopt a lab, it had to be yellow with a red nose. (like the bear) Our second visit to the shelter, we found Chelsea. She was sitting quietly in the kennel, but at the front of the cage. When we walked up to her, she just looked up at us with those loving eyes, pleading. She had been placed in the shelter just a few days before this because "she kept running away". We decided to go ahead and have her brought to one of the play areas. We spent about half an hour with her and filled out the papers. Since we had 2 beagles at the time, we were requried to bring them in to meet her, so we made the arrangements to pick her up the next day, with beagles in tow. After adopting her, we were given her paper work and found out that she had been originally adopted at the west shore shelter by the people who placed her back in the east shore shelter. Now I have to wonder, since this dog has been the perfect house dog since the day we took her in, why did she run away from these people? The first time she happened to make her way out of our front door, she did dart down the road for about a block, but came right back when called. She did get out of our backyard (6' privacy fence...you explain it) but all she did was go around to the front of the house and come trotting up the front walk to me at the front door. She has been a happy, well adjusted, stable pup for us. I thank the Humane Society for this perfect fit!
